ELENOR FRANCIS HOOD

Elenor Francis Hood was born in Winnipeg on September 24, 1925, the only child of Edward (Ted) Hood and Vera McDonald. She lived her entire life in Winnipeg.
A trip to England in 1965 with two of her aunts was a highlight for her, as she was able to meet many of her English cousins. Elenor was devoted to all of her cousins, keeping every wedding invitation, birth announcement and greeting card they sent to her. She had an amazing memory for family memorabilia, evidenced by her input at our only Hood family reunion in 2007. She faithfully attended family gatherings, and enjoyed catching up on everyone's activities.
Her artistic nature led her to have several workrooms in her house, where she was able to create beautiful ceramics, dabble in paper tole, and work on her favourite project, porcelain dolls. Elenor's home was full of beautiful crafted dolls, "Pretty As A Picture Dolls By Elenor". Over time, she made over five hundred dolls, "one to sell and one for herself". Her cousins are fortunate to have these dolls as cherished momentos. She was an active member of the Manitoba Doll Club, showing and selling her dolls at various doll shows around the city. In later years, she began making teddy bears from fur coats. She was an avid collector of special edition Barbie Dolls and Boyd's Bears.
Accomplished in many ways, Elenor's home was filled with her creations. Petit point pictures and tole paintings adorned the walls of her home. Her beloved porcelain dolls, each with clothing sewn by Elenor herself, occupied every nook and cranny of her house.
Unfortunately, ill health brought a halt to these endeavours.
Failing health in May 2018 resulted in a move to Middlechurch Home, where she passed away peacefully on March 18, 2020.
Elenor is survived by several cousins across Canada, and by many friends in the doll making community.
A private interment will be held in the summer.
At this time, we would like to express our most sincere thanks to the staff of Middlechurch Home for their care over the past two years.
