ELLI EMMA (LEE) FISCHER
June 8, 1944 - April 14, 2020

Elli Emma Fischer (Lee) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by two loving friends.
Lee Fischer (nee Jabs) was born in Bischfeld (Torun), Poland, the youngest of eight children. Her family immigrated to Canada in April 1951, settling in Taber, Alberta. She later moved to Kitchener, Ontario and ultimately to Winnipeg, where she met her husband, Bruno, at the German Society of Winnipeg. Lee and Bruno loved to dance, and married in 1964.
Lee will be remembered as a strong, determined and honest person, who cared deeply for her family and friends, the environment, and the world around her. As an entrepreneur, Lee successfully managed rental properties and her Four Seasons esthetician salon for many years. Lee was a good friend to many people. She offered words of wisdom and advice to many in need. She was active on parent committees, the church counsel, and was the Director of Camp Neustadt for several summers. She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to bake, garden and compost. Sewing quilts with the Women's Group at church, and growing plants and vegetables were two of her passions. Lee had tremendous wit and humour. Her favourite expressions included: "God don't make no junk", "Love you lots!", "Use your brain, kid!", and "Be Strong!"
Left to celebrate her life are her daughters, Christina (John Verberk) and Korina (Stéphane Duquet); grandchildren, Nigel, Jonathan, Samuel and Sarah; her siblings, Carl Wildeman of Kitchener, Ontario, Ruth Dube of Terrace, British Columbia, Paramananda of Fort McLeod, Alberta, and Siegfried Jabs of Hanna, Alberta, and their families; many friends from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and the Manitoba Recycling communities.
Lee was predeceased by her husband, Bruno Fischer; her son, Richard Anthony; as well as her siblings, Anne Burch, Irma Szol and Ernest Wildeman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  • We meet Lee at Camp Neustadt. She was a great friend and taught us all about friendship and love. A force to be reconded with and a Lady that would not be pushed around. A person that had LOVE for all and never backed down from a fight. She is now in GOD's hands Love always Lee, rest in peace. - Posted by: Frank Thiessen (Friend) on: Apr 20, 2020

  • I met Lee the first year we joined camp Neustadt. Bruno was still alive. She was a force to be reckoned with. She was a great person to have on your side. She showed me much kindness over the years. During a period when many homes in Winnipeg had their pipes freeze because of the extreme cold she phoned and offered for us to come stay with her. I am saddened by the loss of Lee. She was a spunky, powerful woman. My condolences to the family. Wendie. Lot 2 Beach Road. - Posted by: Wendie Steinbrenner-Overton (Camper) on: Apr 18, 2020

  • She was a vibrant personality. You could depend that Lee would stimulate conversation and debate but her caring for people came through too. - Posted by: Joan Berg (Friend) on: Apr 18, 2020
