JANIS DOREEN BEATTIE
(AUGUST)
August 8, 1948 - April 16, 2020
Janis will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, David Beattie; daughter, Kelly (Stavros); daughter, Shannon (Russell); grandchildren, Henry and Charlotte; brother, Jim August (Sharon); brother-in-law, Don Beattie (June); and many nieces and nephews.
Janis grew up on Tinniswood Street in the North End of Winnipeg. Janis was active at the North Winnipeg YMCA, participating in the leadership program, teaching swimming, and going to outstanding Saturday night dances with her brother and friends. After graduating from Sisler High School, she worked at the Royal Bank, where she met Dave, her husband of 50 years. When her daughters were born, she decided to leave work, and dedicate her time and attention to raising her children.
Janis loved sewing, quilting, and woodworking, and could make anything that she put her mind to. If you showed her a picture of something, she would say "I can make that", and she did.
In her retirement, she and Dave travelled each winter to Texas and Mexico. Janis loved the sun, and the sand between her toes. No matter where she ventured, her favourite place was at home in her backyard, working in her garden with her dogs. Janis became an avid golfer and was a member of the Players Ladies Golf League, where she made many great friends. Janis' greatest passion, however, was people. She was always thinking of others first; her family, her friends, and those in need of a helping hand.
Due to COVID-19, a funeral service will not be held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

I knew Janice from the North Winnipeg YMCA. I was 2 years younger than her and I thought she was so cool. She had such a unique hair style. I'm sure she will be missed. I realized after reading about her that we both named our daughters Kelly. Janice is now in a beautiful place filled with peace, joy and unconditional love. Sending Light and Love to all members of her family. - Posted by: Dianne Winser (Friend from long ago) on: Apr 30, 2020

We will remember Janis as the outgoing, loving person that she was. We drifted from her when our paths went different ways, but when we saw each other she always made a point of reaching out to us. There were many happy memories at the North Y where not only dances but also swimming, gym, and teaching others came into play. Our sincerest condolences go to David and their family as they mourn the loss of someone who left us too early. - Posted by: Doug & Carol Boulay (Friends for life) on: Apr 25, 2020
