SHARON LYNNE COLLISTER
(nee BARKER)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Collister (nee Barker), after a brief illness, on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at the age of 63 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband and high school sweetheart, Carl, and their children, Kathryn (Gordon), Robert (Farrow), David, Mark (Janice) and Daniel. Especially precious to her are her three grandchildren, Samantha, Jackson and Sarah whom she loved with all her heart. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother Marguerite Barker, parents-in-law, Chris and Claude Collister, siblings, Marnie (Larry), Mark (Theresa), Brian (Donna), and sister-in-law Corinne (Paul), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her father Ronald Barker in 2005.
Sharon attended Windsor Park Collegiate and later received her medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1981. She practiced Family Medicine in Winnipeg, always devoted in her dealings with her patients and their families. After retirement, between helping out with her grandchildren, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Sharon enjoyed curling, walking and time spent with her book club and Friendship Force of Winnipeg. She loved to travel and the family enjoyed many wonderful trips together. Memories made at the cottage at Brereton Lake were also special to Sharon.
Sharon's great gift to those who knew her best was her deep love of family. She was the keeper of our traditions: steadfast, principled, kind, hard-working, faithful and caring. We love you Sharon. We will miss you, and will remember you always.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sharon's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
Due to Covid-19, a private family celebration of Sharon's life will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (42 entries)

  • I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Sharon. She was my doctor for 20 years before I moved away from Wpg. She delivered my 3 daughters and was always there for us, squeezing us into her already busy schedule. Sometimes we waited hours to see her but she never made you feel like she was in a hurry, you were always important to her. She was kind, gentle and caring and I loved her. Last night I dreamt she was working at the Hosp/PCH I work at, and I told my daughter about my dream so she googled her name and told me she passed away. Maybe it was Sharon’s way of saying good bye to me. My deepest sympathy to you Dr Carl and your family. See you on the other side one day Sharon. - Posted by: Joanne Olson-Parent (Former patient ) on: Jun 22, 2020

  • I was shocked and saddened to hear the passing of Dr. Barker. I was a former patient of hers for over 15 years. I followed her no matter what clinic she moved to. What I remember most about her was her smile, sense of humor and her genuine interest in your well being. She and Dr. Carl delivered my son together at St. B. as I was having a tough go. Two years later she delivered my daughter at St. B. I remember her saying to me during my delivery with my daughter, "why do these kids always want to come into the world at 2 in the morning!" We laughed. To the Collister family, my deepest sympathy and condolences. - Posted by: Sally Darragh (Former patient of Dr. Barker) on: Jun 13, 2020

  • My sincere condolences to the Collister and Barker families. Sharon was one of my best friends in elementary school and always the leader of our group of neighbourhood friends. I remember Friday lunches together at her house or mine, a grand snow slide in her backyard, a garage circus featuring all our pets, baseball games in the local park and joyful days at the Barker cottage. So sad that she is gone. - Posted by: Gail Reid (Childhood friend) on: May 12, 2020
