Started working at the Happy Vineyard in the fall of 1976. My first job. Worked as a bus boy and later as waiter. It wasn't just a job but so many of us became friends for life. Leona, Gladys, Hugo, "big" Wanda, "little" Wanda, Martin (B Section), Veronika (A Section), Raymond, Lori, Andrew, Perry, Paul, Hilda, Beate, Hans, Ingrid, Joe (accordion player) - these are just some of the names I can remember. And of course, Mr. Lawson - who hired me. The paprika schnitzel was the best. My favorite staff meal. Still have the menu, four logo-ed green stem wine glasses, and a Happy Vineyard postcard signed by Sonny and Anita from 1986 - by then I was living in Vancouver. Last summer I drove to Winnipeg to pick up some stuff I inherited from my mother. Parked in the old Vineyard parking lot and walked around the old building - now used for church services. Tears rolled down my face. Sonny and Anita, thank you for the memories. It was a special place to work. - Posted by: Bernd Goessler (former employee) on: Jun 14, 2020
