DOUGLAS ALFRED HOLLAND
June 4, 1923 - April 23, 2020
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Phyllis, and parents, Nelly and Alfred Holland. Survived by his loving dog Casi, special friend Darlene Korzinski (adopted daughter), her dog Maisy and her family, second cousin Christine Holborow and Molly (England); extended family, Marilyn and Ernest Archer... Graeme, Kaete and Jessica, Barbara Still... Jason, Melanie and Amanda, Pamela Bouttell... Krysti and Aron, Bruce Bouttell... Adam. Great neighbourhood friends, Lillian, Norman, Dawn and Langdon Sparks... Ella Talbot... Murray, Gwen and Nadine Lowes... that helped Doug in many ways, as well as many other friends.
Douglas was born in Enfield, England where he spent the earlier years of his life. In his early adult years he joined the C Flight, No. 4 Squadron where he was trained to fly a Spitfire, later a navigator on the Avro Lancaster Bomber with the R.A.F. in the Second World War.
Near the end of the war he met his beautiful wife Phyllis, they married in 1945 in Winnipeg, and spent 61 wonderful years together until her passing in 2006.
Douglas was employed with Scott Bathgate-Nutti Club where he worked as Account Receivables. Over the years he developed great friendships and continued those even after his retirement at age 65.
When visiting Douglas you would always be offered and sent home with a jar of Nutti-Club peanut butter... choice of smooth or crunchy.
Anyone who knew or first met Doug liked/loved him; he had this pleasant, old fashion gentleman way, always polite, courteous, and thankful for anything that was done for him. But he was a bit stubborn! Although he suffered many years of pain he never complained.
Douglas had the gift of gab, loved to talk, tell stories... great stories that will be greatly missed. He was a very organized person -things had to be a certain way in a certain place; I believe this would be from his days with the Forces.
Douglas touched many hearts and will be greatly missed by so many, never forgotten, forever in our hearts.
Thank you to the wonderful, caring staff at Holy Family Home, Blossoms Senior Caring staff, and David Hidlebaugh at Scotia Wealth.
Douglas we thank you for your years of serving our Country.
Celebration of Life will follow at a later date due to Covid-19.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Winnipeg Humane Society.
We love you Douglas,
will miss our times together.

Doug and my grandfather met during Doug's Lancaster Navigation training, and they became good friends, and Doug has remained a friend of the family long after my grandfather's passing. He was modest about his bravery, and kept a strong and cheerful disposition. He will be missed. - Posted by: Glen Fitzpatrick (Friend) on: Aug 10, 2020

Our Mom and Mr Holland were 'welcomed to Holy Family' on the same day. What a priviledge it was to have met this gentleman and the friends who obviously adored him. A tribute to a life well lived surrounded by such loving friends. It was nice to watch. May he rest well. - Posted by: Zena (Aquaintance ) on: May 05, 2020
