Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Jeri, So sorry to hear of Eugene’s passing. Our hearts go out to you and family in these difficult times. June & Dave Craig - Posted by: June & Dave Craig (Friends) on: May 10, 2020

  • I worked with Eugene in the early days of the Pawley government when he was Minister of Urbans Affairs and then Culture. On the cultural side, we had a group of four people - Mitch Podolak, Jimmie Silden, David Steen and myself - known as the "Kitchen Cabinet" - who advised Eugene on a range of issues of the day. Eugene always looked carefully at what we said. He did not always agree but gave us a fair hearing. I will miss him. - Posted by: Grant Wichenko (Friend) on: May 08, 2020

  • Jeri and family - my deepest condolences on Eugene's passing. All of us who knew him are feeling the loss but I'm sure it can't compare to that of his family's. I considered Eugene a friend, a mentor, a wonderful boss, and the finest of fine humans. The world is a poorer place without him. - Posted by: Sandra Hardy (friend, colleague) on: May 07, 2020

  • My sincere condolences on your loss. I pray that memories of happier times will see you through your time of grief! "God gave us memory so we might enjoy roses in winter." Eugene was a valued associate - and respected and honorable adversary at the bargaining table - in the health care field over the years. May be rest in peace. - Posted by: Bob Strong (Colleague) on: May 05, 2020

  • I will so miss Eugene's humour, insightfulness and brilliance. We worked together when I was Mayor as he took a lead role in building what became a strong and collaborative partnership between the city and the provincial governments. So many things that make us proud of our city and province have Eugene's fingerprints on them. Eugene left us a community that was better and stronger than he found it. Eugene was never interested in getting credit for things and yet for many years in our province, many of the most impactful policies, projects and improvements to our quality of life were possible because of his adept ability to get good things done well. (Quietly). Eugene was fun, caring and real. He was a friend, organizer and gave people hope. One of his many his legacies is that he made us all better people for knowing and learning from him. Let's try and keep that spirit alive in how we live our lives each day. To Jeri, family and Eugene's many friends, my heartfelt condolences. - Posted by: Glen Murray (Friend and colleague) on: May 05, 2020
