Taurino Carpio Gasmen, 80, of Winnipeg, passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on May 3, 2020.
He was born August 17, 1939 in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to Jose and Maria Gasmen. Taurino (Rene) moved to Chicago in 1962 before settling in Winnipeg in 1965. He married Lydia Calso Gasmen on July 25, 1963, and she survives.
Rene is survived by his three sons, Glenn (Jacquelyn) Gasmen, Ray (Kelly) Gasmen and Eric (Cori) Gasmen and many loving grandchildren, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Danielle, Anneliese, Chase and Evelyn. Rene was also the eldest of brother of Zenaida and Rogelio. Rene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone.
He worked as a registered nurse for 35 years at St. Boniface Hospital. Rene was humble, patient and attentive. As a nurse, he had calm, kind and gentle demeanour based on self-respect and confidence that highlighted his style. He was often described as a pleasant gentleman and that he listened with sincere interest in others.
Throughout Rene's retirement, he enjoyed time with his family and stayed active with travelling, cruising, playing golf and mall-walking with friends.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Melanie Shell as well as the staff at the WHRA Palliative Care Program.
A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020.
