RUTH MARTIN CROWELL
(nee FAMILTON)
January 27, 1922 - May 2, 2020
Mom was born in England and came to Canada in 1927 on the S.S. Montcalm landing in St. John's with her parents and her brothers and sisters. She spent her early years growing up in Ogilvie, MB, and Prairie Grove, MB. Her family nickname was Fluffy.
She married Lee Crowell in 1940 and was a longtime resident of Fort Rouge.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Ruth; husband Lee in 1983; and her four brothers and four sisters.
Ruth is survived and much loved by her son Ron (Joanne); daughter Maureen (Alan Grant); grandchildren, Robyn Overwater and Gavin Crowell; great-grandchildren, Travis, Kennedy and Austin Overwater and Hayley and Logan Crowell; sister-in-law Dorothy Familton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was a homemaker but also worked various jobs, mostly in the catering field. Mom had numerous dogs in her lifetime and loved taking them on their daily walks. She enjoyed knitting, reading, her exercise classes, as well as looking after her plants and feeding the birds.
Many thanks to the staff at the Poseidon Care Centre (3 East) for their care and compassion.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's name to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
R.I.P Mom, your long journey has ended.

My Aunt Ruth was a major influence in my life especially, while growing up. The many visits to her home and greeted with a cheerful "Hi", followed-up with a offer of, " Would you like a glass of Pepsi" are uncountable. Aunt Ruth or as my son called her in his younger days, "My Great, Great, Great, Aunt Ruth" to, which she would respond with, "I'm not THAT Great" and a laugh! Aunt Ruth was a most, wonderful and very, compassionate person, going "to bat" for those less fortunate by offering them work and paying them for it. She loved her dogs and oftentimes, would be outside, walking them for exercise. My memories consist of Aunt Ruth taking me Downtown on the bus, buying me a toy and taking me with her to the Shriner's Circus. She one time, took my son, and me to the Circus - a generational thing, I suppose but very kind of her, I cannot go on to list the wonderful things she had done with people and to myself. A good example to mimic indeed! This is definitely, this world's loss! She will and already is missed. Rest in peace Aunt Ruth (see you later) ! - Your Nephew, Randy - Posted by: Randy Fisher (Nephew) on: May 14, 2020
