LYLA BREY

Suddenly and peacefully, on May 9, 2020, mom passed away at Middlechurch Home.
Mom accomplished many things throughout her life, from working on the farm, moving to the city, working in sewing factories, cleaning homes, punch press operator, waitressing in many city bars and finally a Healthcare Aide at Health Sciences Centre until her retirement.
Mom had a love and knack for gardening, crocheting, knitting and sewing. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have quilts to keep her memory alive.
Lyla was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Lydia Tober; her husband Gunter; son Brian; sister Evelyne; nieces, Eileen and Michelle.
She is survived by her daughter Joan (Brad); granddaughters, Donna (David), Stacy, (Shane) and great-grandchildren, Noah, Ayla, Lily and Lyla; brother Grant (Marjorie) Tober; brothers-in-law, George Dodds, Sigi Brey and their families.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Lyla’s passing. Lyla used to plant a garden at our place in the 70’s, she was such a hard worker and a wonderful person. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Colleen Norton (Friend) on: May 23, 2020

  • I am so sad to hear that Lyla is no longer with us. I met her a very long time ago when I started working on the Labour and Delivery ward at the Women's Hospital. She was always friendly and helpful and kept you entertained with her jokes and stories. I don't think that I ever saw her without a smile on her face. When she retired we didn't keep in touch as well as we should have but when we did connect, she had a lot to say and kept me laughing once again. Family always meant the world to her and I'm sure that they are feeling her loss every day. I'm so glad that I got to meet her and her son Brian who was also funny, helpful and kind just like his mother. She was one of a kind. - Posted by: Tara Ricard (co-worker) on: May 19, 2020

  • I and all of our office staff from Bird's Hill Insurance (we sold in 2006) knew Lyla to be not only a customer but one of the friendliest, kindest and pleasant ladies to know. She will surely be missed. Condolences to her friends and family. - Posted by: Jan Lapka (Business acquaintenance) on: May 18, 2020

  • I just wanted to express my sincere sympathy to your entire family. Lyla was an active member of the Oaklander's Social Club, where I met her and enjoyed her company. We are pleased that she was enjoying her move to Middlechurch. She will be missed. - Posted by: Celeste M. Bryant (Friend/neighbour) on: May 16, 2020
