LARRY ROBERT FISHER
October 25, 1945 - May 8, 2020
He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Ruth Fisher; and his brother, Grant Fisher.
Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Karen; his son Derrick (Sheri); stepchildren, Shelley (Mark), Jerrod, Meagan (Tim); his sister, Barb (Jim); his brothers-in-law, Doug (Louise), Bruce (Margaret), and Fred. He also leaves to mourn multiple grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Larry was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. While growing up, many happy summers were spent at the family cottage in Gimli. One of his fondest memories was packing up and catching the train to Gimli once school was finished for the summer. He attended high school at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, and later moved to Edmonton, where he completed his education at the University of Alberta with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
During his high school and university years, Larry developed a love of sports. Upon graduation, he moved to Ontario. While there, Larry went on to competitive curling, and it was a source of pride that he and his team won the Provincials, and went on to play in the Canadian Mixed National Championships. Later in life his passion was scuba diving. A highlight was getting his dive instructor certification in Bali, and certifying many family members and enthusiasts through his favourite dive shop.
In 1977 his job with INCO Ltd. took him to Guatemala, and a taste for world travel was born. Shortly after, he became a part of the oil and gas industry, where he built a reputation as a much respected, fair employer, who generously shared his knowledge. Fast forward through many years and many adventures, during which he worked with several companies that included posts in Canada, Russia, Indonesia, and India. He completed his professional career with what culminated in a 13 year sojourn and love affair with India and its' people. After which, Larry and Karen moved back to their home in Mexico.
Travelling and vacationing around the world extensively with friends and family provided many priceless memories throughout his life. In 2016 Larry and Karen returned home to Winnipeg, and in 2017 Larry officially retired. They became snowbirds, who spent the winters in Mexico and the summers in Winnipeg. Larry loved being home, where he could be closer to family and his two favourite teams; the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the East St. Paul paramedics and RCMP for their exceptional response, kindness, and compassion, as well as a special thank you to the Concordia Urgent Care medical staff.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held and announced once public health restrictions allow.

We have enjoyed Karen and Larry as neighbors since they moved to Country Villas a few years ago. We have loved Larry's keen sense of humor and his contributions to all conversations. We also shared a love to eat out!! We were so looking forward to backyard visits on the deck. Honestly we cannot believe he is gone!! This is a heartbreaking loss and my family wants to send love and support to your family at this time. I wish I could give you all a big hug and tell you how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Uncle Larry was such a smily and fun man! Auntie Karen I have such great memories of my trip to your home in Mexico when I was 12 years old and all the family together at our wedding in 2016. You’re all in our thoughts. Sending love from the Marsch/Peterson families. - Posted by: Rachel Peterson (Family ) on: May 19, 2020

It is with deep sadness that I have learned about Larry's passing. He was a dear friend who I shared a passion for diving with. Larry and our mutual friend Jim, as well as a host of others, made hundreds of dives together, mostly off the shore along McClure reef in front of my home here in Puerto Aventuras Mexico. Larry was an excellent diver, an accomplished underwater photographer, and patient dive instructor that loved teaching and bringing others into the sport. (he also enjoyed the comradeship of a cold beer after a dive too) . Above all he was a trusted friend whose passing has left a hole in my heart that can only be filled with the many great memories we made together under and above water. Larry I know you will be my buddy when I make my next dive out on McClure reef. Pasar con paz mi amigo. - Posted by: Doug Wasmuth (friend) on: May 16, 2020

A great leader, who motivate and discover the ability and potentiality of his co-workers to prosper in his professional career and towards the success of the company. He is indeed a very down to earth person with love to nature and life on Earth. I am deeply shocked to hear his sad demise. May his soul rest in peace. - Posted by: Dr. Patnaik HK (Colleague ) on: May 16, 2020

I met Larry and Karen several years ago with regards to their Mexican immigration documents and became two of my most cherished friends who have always been there for me. Larry always had a special unique kind of humor that will be forever missed. I was fortunate to have them spend holiday dinners at my house. I will miss him deeply and pray that Karen will find peace, comfort and strength to accept this unfortunate event in her life. My love to Karen and her family.
