PATRICIA (STELLA) WHEWAY
(nee HUSAK)
Pat or Stella as she was affectionately called, was born July 10, 1935 to Mike and Jenny Husak on the family farm in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. She would later joke that she was born in the family home in what would be later become the "chicken coop." She often spoke of her days growing up on the farm and the wonderful memories she had of being raised in Fisher Branch.
At 15 years of age, Pat got her first job at the Fisher Branch Co-op Store. This would become the beginning of her career path for Life. At 17 years of age, she moved to "The Big City" of Winnipeg and found employment with Canada Safeway. She would go on to spend 47 years proudly working for Canada Safeway, only taking time off for the birth of her daughter . She spent the last part of her career, 17 years, working at the Fort Richmond Store #709 and was know fondly as Stella by her coworkers and clients alike and Baba Pat, to the children who frequented the store.
In 1961, Pat married Thomas Wheway and several years later, they would welcome her greatest gift, her daughter Karmen. The marriage would end and mom would take on the role of both mother and father. A special relationship developed between mother and daughter, that lasted to the very end. Pat was a wonderful mother and always put the needs of her daughter first.
Patricia was a strong and hardworking farm girl. She was always fashionably dressed, hair done and took great pride in her appearance. She was determined and steadfast. When she set her mind to something, there was no task she did not complete. She was upbeat and positive and took a genuine interest in others. She had a wonderful sense of humour. She especially loved children and enjoyed making them laugh. But her biggest and most profound role was being a good mother.
When Dementia no longer allowed her to live on her own, she moved to the Maples Personal Care Home. She received wonderful care for by God's Angels, supervisors, Mel and Aurora; nurses, Leza, Ada, Faye and Lane; Health Care Aids, Daphne, Larry, Marites, Maylyn and Zamina and many others from the cooks to the cleaning staff, all shared in making her time there special and safe. I will be forever grateful for the kindness and humanity for which my mother was treated.
Pat is survived by her daughter Karmen/Doug; their sons, Adam/Jodi and Matt/Katherine Kwiecien; along with their grandchildren, Paige, Frank, Kate, Walter and Isaak; sister-in-law Kaye Husak; neice Shannon/Leonard Krulicki and nephew Stuart Husak.
She was predeceased by parents, Mike and Jennie Husak and brother Buddy Husak.
Stella is now free of the burdens of her illness. She is with all that have gone before her and is surrounded by love. I was her best friend and she will always be mine.
Love you Forever, Mom.
