GRACE SHAW
(nee AUSTMAN)
March 7, 1936 - May 18, 2020
She leaves to mourn her beloved husband Ernest; daughter Myrtle (Les); grandchildren, Jason (Lisa), Dan (Steve), Shonna (Ryan), Laurie (Kris) and Jennifer (Chris); great-grandchildren, Juliette, Lincoln, Scarlett, Brodie, Lily, Conner, Madison and Coralee; sister Helga; brother Edwin (Sharon); sister-in-law Myrtle; numerous nieces; nephews and extended family. She was also predeceased by numerous family members.
Grace was born in Winnipeg, MB and grew up on a farm with her family outside of Ashern, MB. When she was 16 she moved to Winnipeg and started her life long career in retail. She was a hard worker and had a love for her family that was so strong. She met the love of her life Ernie in 1957 and on February 1, 1958 they were married. They raised three beautiful children, Brenda, Myrtle and Roy and lived in Winnipeg, Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Moose Jaw and then came back to Winnipeg to live the rest of their lives together. She had a love for horses, spending time with her family and bingo dates with her sister and friends. She also enjoyed going to Nova Scotia in the summers to visit family. Family was her everything. Grace has spent the last eight years battling Parkinsons and Lewey body dementia with the love and support of her family.
You were the most amazing wife, mom, amma, great-amma, sister and friend. You taught us all what meaning of unconditional love is.
Mom, I have so many happy and loving memories of you, that I will forever hold onto. My heart is broken. Love you to the moon and back forever and always, please never forget this. We will dance again, Love Myrtle.
Your body and spirit are free to dance in heaven, with the other half of your family you have missed so dearly. Instead of good bye we will say one last love, you have a good sleep.
The family would like to thank the few special staff members of the third floor at Oakview that cared for Grace. We also need to say a special thank you to the staff at Grace Hospital for going above and beyond and allowing us the chance to say goodbye. We are forever grateful.
The family will be doing a memorial service at a later date.
