YVETTE ANNA MARIE ZEMCAK
June 10, 1947 – May 16, 2020

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Yvette, on May 16, 2020, at the age of 72 years.
She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Josef Zemcak. She will be deeply
missed by her two sons, Joel (Nicole) and Eric, grandchild Danique, her two brothers, Maurice (Patricia), Marcel (Kerry), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Yvette was born on June 10, 1947, to loving parents, Flore (nee Grandmont) and Lionel Verrier. After graduating from the
University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts degree, she went on to pursue a long and successful career in teaching for the St.
Boniface School Division. Always selfless, Yvette was known in her community for her kindness, compassion and commitment to helping others. She always had a remarkable ability to put others at ease.
After 35 years in teaching, she retired to spend more time with family and friends and cherish the simple things in life. With her bubbly personality, she loved to chat over a good cup of coffee, gluten-free desserts and nurture connections with others. She will
always be remembered as the devoted and ever-loving mom to her sons and doting grandmother to Danique.
She spent her days enjoying warm sunny weather, tending to her flower gardens,
reading books, trying new restaurants and going for walks. She also loved the adventure and excitement of travelling to new places, especially when accompanied by her family. Her company, warmth and sunny disposition will be missed by all who had the honour of knowing her.
A service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery located at 455 Lagimodière Blvd, Winnipeg, MB. Due to Covid-19 there may still be capacity restrictions in place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Family and friends may sign a

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Marcel and family. I just learned of your loss of Yvette. I am so sorry to learn of this sad news for you. That is a beautiful picture of Yvette. I still remember Yvette, all those years ago, as a most beautiful girl, always so warm and friendly, and a most lovely smile and laugh. I admired her as I watched her float through your house so graciously and quietly, as it seemed to me. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I believe she remains for always an inspiration to you and to all of your family. • Yvette always had a positive attitude which I loved her for. Many will miss her as I. - Posted by: mike raffard (cousin) on: May 31, 2020

  • Joel - my condolences. I saw the name in the obituaries and wondered if this was a relative of yours. I remember your superior French in high school and wondered where the French came from a name like Zemcak. Now I see. I also see the family resemblance from the photo of your beautiful mother. I always remember an excellent speech you gave in high school speech class despite the fact that you did not revel in public speaking. I suspect you had great support and assistance from your teaching mother. Take care at this time, - Posted by: Joe Langan (Class mate of Joel) on: May 31, 2020

  • Our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Joel and Eric. And Yvette's brothers, Maurice and Marcel. Yvette and I were born 3 months apart. We did so many things together as we were 1st cousins. What I liked about Yvette was her calmness. She knew how to keep our attention, while she would tell us about an event which had happened. Many childhood memories, too numerous to name, but also wonderful memories with her and Josef. We were blessed to have shared some vacation time with both of them and Joel and Eric. To name a few 2 weeks at Matlock in 1988. The kids would go to the lake every morning. We had weiner roasts down at the lake at night. Another event our trip to Kenora one Sunday. We went on the MS Kenora with our children, Yvette's father was also with us. We wanted them to experience a ride on a boat, and look at the beautiful scenery. We enjoyed the buffet and the ride. On our return trip we stopped at Minaki Lodge for sightseeing. Well that trip was quite unforgettable as the next day, we all suffered of food poisoning, except Josef and grandpa. They did not eat the potato salad. It was also pleasant when Yvette joined us at the St. Claude Fall Supper, as well as the one in St. Joseph. She was easygoing. She will leave an emptiness in our lives, but we have a life time of memories in our hearts. You left to early Yvette, may you Rest in Peace. Love you Yvette. - Posted by: Diane et Léo Fontaine (ami.e) on: May 30, 2020

Tu me manqueras Yvette. - Posted by: Denise Gauthier (Amie) on: May 30, 2020

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal”. Je vous offre mes sincères condoléances. • My deepest, heartfelt sympathy Joel and Éric. I met your dear Mom at a Celiac Association meeting, and from there built a connection. We were the only two who spoke French, and we both got the Celiac Disease after having our newborn sons, both named Éric. Both Érics were in the same class at Lacerte until mid-grade one, until we moved out to the country. My Éric remembers you. We loved sharing our recipes and what worked and didn't work for each of us. Later, we found out we shared the same friend! Monique. She was a wonderful woman and I am blessed I got to know her. - Posted by: Gaby Musick (Friend) on: May 30, 2020
