OLHA JACKSON
(nee BODRUG)
Olha was born in Dallas, Manitoba in 1921 and the times were very hard for her family. She joined the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) in December 1942 and following that moved to Winnipeg, where she met and made many friends. Mom married Dad, Reginald Jackson, on June 5, 1948. Dad passed away shortly after retiring from the Winnipeg School Division in 1981. She has one sister, Rosalia Petrone, living in Edmonton.
She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth in 1977; and siblings, Daniel, George and Dora.
Also, left to mourn is her daughter Sheila; sons, Charles (Mona) and Richard (Cathy); granddaughter Lory Vermette Siemens (Brian), and grandson Lance Kenyon (Angel); grandchildren, Wesley Byers (Ty), Craig Byers (Jolene), Brent Jackson (Lorianna), Shane Jackson, Meagan Jackson (Shane), Holly, and great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Ashley, Erika, Jackson, Barrett, Arlo and Willa.
Mom was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She was overjoyed to make a trip to meet relatives there many years ago. She was an excellent seamstress and very artistic. Mom always managed to be a helper for family members and had a great sense of humour and loving compassion.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street.
