VERNA LAROCHE
(nee DAWES)
She is survived by husband of 55 years, Michel, son David, daughter Heather Banera (Grant) and daughter Angela; grandchildren, Ryan (Lacey) of Red Deer, AB and Meagan of Winnipeg, MB; sister Jean Hoffman (Larry) of Ebenezer, SK; and brother Lorne Dawes (Anne) of Calgary, AB.
She was predeceased by her father Jack and mother Edith Dawes, brother Glen Dawes (Marilyn).
The family would like to thank the Angels (nurses, doctors and staff) of Unit 3E Palliative Care unit. A special thank you to all the nurses and home care staff who visited and helped care for Verna.
Growing up in Yorkton Verna was active in her church choir and volunteer work. Moving to Thompson Verna volunteered to help in the school remedial reading class. She joined the Rebekah's and held various positions both at club level and regionally.
After moving to Winnipeg Verna joined the Lions club as a Lionnelle, a Lioness and a Lion with the St. James Lions club where she served in various positions.
After a 22 year career with D.N.D. Verna retired in 2003 from the CFB Winnipeg Military Police detachment.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a family memorial was held on June 19 following cremation and interment at Chapel Lawn.
As per Verna's wishes, in lieu of a formal funeral service, a celebration of her life will be held when restrictions are lifted.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or to Riverview Palliative Care Centre.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic gathering restrictions, a private family memorial will be held, following cremation, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Once restrictions are lifted, a celebration of Verna's life will be held.

Mike and family. I am so sorry to hear of Verna's passing. She was a wonderful, caring special lady. I enjoyed working with her at the base. We worked hard, but had fun times as well.
