MICHAEL (MIKE) KRAWITZ
1932 - 2020
Survived by Elsie, his dear wife of 61 years, and his much loved daughters, Patricia and Elizabeth whom he always referred to as Pat and Leshia. Predeceased by his parents, John and Mary, and brother Walter.
Mike was born in Winnipeg on November 27, 1932. As a school student who played piano-accordion, he performed at concerts, musical events, and played professionally with numerous dance bands. Mike was active in many sports, as a member of teams at school, community club, and other associations.
After completing high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, Mike worked a few years before enrolling into the U. of M. Faculty of Architecture in 1952. In 1957, he graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of Manitoba. Upon graduation, he accepted a job offer from Smith Carter, the architectural firm for whom he had worked as a summer student.
In 1958, Mike and his fiancée Elsie were married. After being blessed with two daughters, the young family enjoyed summer vacation car trips to eastern and western Canada. Later, there were some family vacations in Florida and Hawaii. Although the family was small, the love and support for each other was strong.
Mike's architectural career of 45 years included working with Smith Carter for 30 years, Public Works Canada for seven years, and CancerCare Manitoba for eight years. As project architect, his early projects were commercial buildings and educational facilities (schools, community college, and university) in Manitoba and Ontario. Mike's later work involved health care facilities in Manitoba and Ontario, including major hospital projects in Winnipeg, Sault Ste. Marie and London, Ontario. Upon completion of his final project, CancerCare Manitoba, Mike retired in 2002. Retirement allowed for more time with family and precious pets, as well as an occasional family trip to Las Vegas.
Mike was a wonderful husband and father. Our dad "Tato" would do anything and everything for us. There are no words to describe how much the three of us will miss him.
We thank the Westwood Walmart staff led by Michele who selflessly sprang into action to perform CPR in the parking lot until Fire and Paramedics arrived and continued trying to revive him. Thank you to the Grace Hospital staff who sat with us and supported us as we said our goodbyes.
In respect of our dad's wishes, there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service was held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
Please hold a kind thought in your heart of our dad, one that makes you smile, so as he looks down upon us, he sees a symphony of smiles beaming up at him.
WE WILL MISS YOU FOREVER

Back in the '60s when home parties were the way people (especially as parents with kids) socialized, my parents often hosted them at our home in Ft. Garry. It was there that I first met Mike and Elsie along with Mike's brother Wally and many of their friends who grew up in the North End. I was about 9 or 10 years old. Eventually, I heard Mike play the accordion in my grandfather's band, the Harmony Orchestra. There were many occasions that followed including numerous wedding receptions and even the odd house party where the boys would play their polkas until the wee hours. I recently saw Mike at my dad's celebration of life this past January. He and my dad were good friends and even though they didn't see each other from time to time, their friendship never suffered at all. On behalf of the Gregora family, I want to send our deepest condolences to Elsie, Pat, and Leshia. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Wally Gregora (Family friend) on: Jun 21, 2020

Mike was our "across the lane neighbour" for 21 years. He always greeted us with a big smile and a friendly chat whenever we were taking our cars out of our garages. Although we have since moved, we won't forget Mike and his family. We send our sincere condolences to the Krawitz family from Mike and Monica MacWilliam. - Posted by: Mike and Monica MacWilliam (Neighbour) on: Jun 20, 2020
