MARTIN SNIKERIS
Martin was born Martins Kristops Snikeris on April 7, 1955 in Winnipeg to father Talivaldis and mother Elza, who'd emigrated from Latvia. Martin and his younger brothers, Mikelis (Lori), Juris (Linda) and Andris were raised to take pride in their Latvian heritage.
The boys grew up in St. James and Martin graduated from Silver Heights Collegiate in 1973. He experienced love at first sight when he met Token Munt in the spring of 1975 and the two married in June 1976. The couple spent many very happy years with daughters, Alexis and Ashley and son Neal before Token's unexpected passing in 2016.
Martin was quite successful as a homebuilder in his 20s before embarking on a long and successful career in auto sales, but he never lost his handy touch. He'd often take the opportunity to renovate the family home or cottage in Spruce Sands where he would recount his fondest memories. Martin loved being out on the water - so much so that he'd be seen stranded on Lake Winnipeg on his windsailer!
Martin loved to golf, watch his beloved Jets and Blue Bombers, and could talk about music for hours on end. If a guitar or piano was present, it wouldn't be long before he'd get his hands on it and start playing.
He adored his kids and when grandkids, Elissa, Violet and Crawford (Alexis and Pat Jessiman) and Koen and Kyra (Neal and Miranda) came along, he was thrilled to be a grandpa. He was also a proud uncle to nieces, Nicole and Natasha (Juris and Linda), and Krista and Kayla (Mike and Lori).
Known affectionately as "Marty" by most, especially his kids' friends, he was always quick with a joke to go along with a booming laugh and smile that lit up the room. His fiery spirit and friendly personality will be missed.
Martin is survived by his kids, and brothers, Mikelis and Juris. He was predeceased by Talivaldis, Elza, Andris and Token.
Due to COVID-19, the family has decided not to hold a formal service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba or The Grace Hospital Foundation.

I worked with Martin in the car business in 2000. He was my manager. I enjoyed working with Martin very much and always thought him to be a great person. He was a good boss, very fair and supportive and made coming to work each day a pleasure. I am very saddened to learn of his passing. My most heartfelt condolences go out to his family. - Posted by: Richard Baughman (former coworker) on: Dec 14, 2020
