DONALD RUSSELL MCDOUGALL
October 4, 1959 - June 20, 2020
Our beloved Don left us way too early. He leaves his loving spouse, Joy Gillespie, and Joy's daughter Danielle (Ben), his mother Thelma McDougall, and brothers, Duncan McDougall (Janis), Rick McDougall (Byron Johnson); and sisters, Cheryl McDougall (Edwin Gluck), Norma McDougall, Alice McDougall, Beverly Belanger (Gilbert), Suzanna Kalman (John) and Joanne Hawkins (Jim) and the many nieces and nephews with whom he had a close connection. He also leaves his brother-in-law Doug Taverner. Don was predeceased by his father Russell in August 1986 and his sister Rosemary Taverner in January, 2020.
Don was the epitome of the outdoorsman, spending countless hours fishing, hunting and guiding. He and Joy loved their time together fishing in and around the Lakes of Manitoba and spending time in Winnipeg Beach. Don worked at Gerdau Steel in Selkirk, MB (formerly Manitoba Rolling Mills) for 34 years and made many friends throughout his life. He was always the first one to help those in need, even as a young boy. He hosted amazing meals at his home and his culinary abilities were legendary. He shared his love of music, which he inherited from his Dad, and was appreciated by all who had the joy of hearing him play and sing. Don had a gift with animals and plants and was known for caring for both.
He will be intensely missed by all
who knew and loved him. RIP Astro.
"Farewell my love, fly with your birds,
buzz with your bees and smell all
of your beautiful flowers". Joy

I am deeply saddened by my Uncle Donny's passing as I have very fond memories of him while growing up. He would tell us kids go through his little car (an MG) searching for a handful of change. I remember his generous spirit and dry sense of humor well, but the one memory that keeps floating to the surface is that of music. We all sat around the fire at Watchorn Bay and listened to both Donny and Duncan play their guitars - my own sweet memory to this day as I am still drawn to those fluid melodies. To Joy, Grandma Mac and all of my aunts, uncles and cousins - I am sharing in your loss but I am also comforted knowing that Donny is now possibly sharing a tune with Grandpa Mac and Rosie. Play on! - Posted by: Krista Kirkness (Niece) on: Jun 28, 2020
