DAVID LESLIE MORAN

After a courageous battle with cancer, we would like to announce the passing of David Moran on Monday, June 29, 2020, at Grace Hospital, at the age of 78. He was surrounded with the love of his family at the time of his passing.
Family was an important part of David's life and he will be sadly missed by both his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Elaine, of almost 59 years; children, Wendy (Darren), Laurie (Larry), Tim (Donna); grandchildren, Hollie, Emma, Alana, James, Emily, Jessica, Andrew and Jason; great-grandchildren, Noah, Lily, Arya and Izzy; brothers, John (Linda) and family, Tony (Donnabelle) and Clayton (Susie).
David was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He fell in love with his school sweetheart Elaine who he got to know better through square dancing in his parents' basement. They spent many weekends at Lee River fishing, swimming, paddling their canoe, playing crib and board games. David enjoyed sharing his passions and love of life with everyone around him. During his battle with cancer he continued to maintain a positive outlook on life, often downplaying its severity in order to reassure those around him. David was always making time for others, especially his grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed playing as much as they did.
While attending St. Martin In The Fields, Anglican Church, at a young age David felt called to serve his faith community. He was involved with the Sunday School, vestry and any committees that supported the church. David was also active in the Orchid Club, YMCA, RMTC, and Winnipeg Harvest.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Glen Eden Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed for those wishing to attend. Please feel free to join the family for an interment service at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Bovell and the nursing staff of the 3rd floor at Grace Hospital for their care.
In lieu of flowers, please share a fun story with your loved ones about David, show a kind gesture to a senior citizen or make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or to St. Francis Anglican Church.

We will always carry your
memory in our hearts.

  • Dear Elaine and Family. We apologies firstly but due to us not getting the paper we did not know of the passing of a good Friend, until we received this years Christmas card Elaine.. Dave and I (Candice) worked together in the mid 70's at A.E.I. Telecommunications for many years. He was always seen with a smile on his face and humor on his lips. His adventures always fascinating to listen to. It was so nice once we moved back to Manitoba and just down from each other on the Lee River to have reconnected and 99 .9 percent of the time he would always stop and talk when I sold my wares at the Lac Du Bonnet Farms Market for all those years. • Through many years of sharing a love of orchids, and the close bond formed by folks who work together at something they truly enjoy, Roselyn and I came to have great respect and admiration for Dave. Certainly the Manitoba Orchid Society owes a great debt of gratitude for the leadership Dave provided as he worked his way through every position from Show Chair to Auctioneer, President, and every other job that needed filling. He was simply outstanding at all he took on. One of my favourite memories is of a conversation with David regarding his garden, and comparing methods of growing things other than orchids. We talked about composting and first thing you know we were in his basement inspecting his thriving vermicomposting system and discussing the relative merits of genuine Red Wiggler worms. A couple of months later, when the weather had warmed, I came home one day and my daughter Roselyn told me that Dave had called and my bucket of worms were ready for pick up. I had completely forgotten, but Dave had not! So off to Bird’s Hill we drove and Dave proudly presented me with a five gallon pail of squirmy goodness. I remember him telling me that these were tropical worms so they needed to be kept inside year round and not to use them for fishing because the fish don’t like them. I am proud to say that, years later, the worm bin is still thriving in the laundry room, turning my tea bags and produce bits and pieces into a never-ending source of fine worm castings (poop) for my plants. Thank you much Dave! Always ready with his quick wit and brilliant smile Dave could quickly charm a reporter or quietly take the time to encourage a young orchid grower just starting out on a new hobby. He was incredibly generous with his time, his energy, and his genuine compassion for the needs of others. I know I speak for all those friends at the MOS who, due to the current situation, will not be there at the funeral to offer condolences in person to our dear friend Elaine, and their family. We will miss you, our Hawaiian-shirted buddy. Beyond the struggles of this earth, God grant you peace my friend. Denise and Roselyn - Posted by: Denise Fortier (Friend) on: Jul 09, 2020

  • Dave was a true gentleman who went out of his way to support his co-workers, customers and all those he met in his personal activities. I had the privilege of working with Dave twice: at AML Wireless and GPT. It was pleasure working with him and I have many good memories including a road trip we took to Minnesota to service MMDS equipment. Rosa and I are grateful for the enthusiastic advice he provided about growing orchids. Our condolences to Elaine and family. - Posted by: Kirby Jaman (co-worker) on: Jul 08, 2020

  • Elaine - Reading of David's passing brought back memories of our childhood: camping with your parents & brother, riding our bikes all over WK, catching turtles at your grandfather's place on the river, and square dancing in the Moran basement, of course. We were lucky to share such carefree days. Hard to believe it was so long ago. It is sad that you have lost David. It is good to know you have family to comfort you. • For all the years I've know the both of you, I've said, Elaine, that man of yours should be cloned. Needless to say I thought he was a great guy. My condolences to the whole family. - Posted by: Dorothy Bailey (Friend) on: Jul 04, 2020
