ERNEST (ERNIE) RUBY
January 29, 1941 - July 6, 2020
He is survived by his loving wife Pam, and his sons, Jason and Leanne (Joshua, Benjamin), and Brent and Heather (Carter). Also surviving him are Pam's daughters, Sherrill Dallmann (Jeffrey, Michelle, Alanna, Nicholas), Kristy Nanton and Joe (Alexander, Kyle), and Shannon Stefanson and Grant (Jilian, Reyna, Natalie). He was predeceased by his first wife Pat, his brother Richard, and his parents, Harry and Annie.
He attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and was employed by Federal Grain, Victoria General Hospital and eventually Manitoba Hydro. Ernie coached and managed both of his sons with their sports. He had a great interest in cars since he was a teenager and owned many vehicles throughout his lifetime. He was a fan of the Jets and the Blue Bombers. He supported many charities and was very kind, generous, thoughtful and considerate. Ernie and Pam enjoyed holidays in Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Victoria, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal and North Carolina. The best vacations for them were when they were with family or friends.
Sincere thanks to Dr. W. Poon, Dr. R. Kotb and Dr. D. Hartley as well as Riverview Health Centre (Salina and Toni), Grace Hospice, home care, palliative home care and especially to Shannon Stefanson for being by his side throughout his long journey.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a family celebration at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Grace Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
Those who love don't go away,

Dear Pam and Families, So sorry to hear about Ernies' passing, even though you have known me all my life we only met Ernie a few times and enjoyed him immensely. Sorry this is to late but we do not get the news paper and have not heard from you since last spring ,Christmas we are sure will be difficult but remember All the Good times you had Together and he is watching over you all the time. Pam, Brent & Jason: we were very sorry to hear of Ernie’s passing. He was one of the genuinely nice guys. We have fond memories of the community club hockey days and tournament trips. Ernie was a large part of that and he was always a pleasure to be around. We hope you can take comfort in knowing that he is beyond suffering and at peace. To Pam and Family Arlene and I were very saddened to learn of Ernie’s passing. We were hoping for some sort of miracle to occur, but that was not to be. His pain is finally over and he is at peace now. I knew Ernie years ago from seeing him in the halls of Sargent Park School in 1956. He was very popular and well liked amongst the students and teachers. Pam, meeting him again in 2001 and enjoying some good times with both you and Ernie was always a pleasure for us. Pam, Mavis and I were saddened to learn of Ernie's passing. It was rather ironical that after working at Manitoba Hydro for many years, that we would reconnect at Dovercourt. I always enjoyed my chats with Ernie, especially when walking with him at the Reh-Fit. He had a wide-ranging perspective and there was never a dull moment in our conversations. You are to be commended for being there for Ernie while he suffered with his difficult and painful illness. There are heroes in our everyday lives and you are certainly one of them.
