PAUL WOYTOWICH
Immigrating to Canada from Europe two weeks before the war broke out in 1939 at the age of 13, his family settled in the farming community of Arborg. In 1950 he moved to Winnipeg and, in 1957, married Anne with whom he just celebrated 63 years of marriage, together with their daughters, Sandy and Donna, and son-in-law Gary.
Paul worked in the hospitality industry for over 35 years and had that friendly, joking disposition that made everyone smile. Mom and Dad loved to take road trips out west and down south when their girls were still young. Later, they ventured out on their own.
Dad always had a dream of owning a cottage and, in 1991, Mom and Dad purchased a place in Hillside Beach. Many of their friends thought he was a little optimistic buying a cottage at the age of 65 but they went on to enjoy 27 wonderful years at Hillside and spent many evenings playing cards with dear friends and neighbours.
Right up until last summer, Dad would drive to Garden City Shopping Centre to spend time with friends over a coffee. He loved being independent which gave him the freedom to take Mom to the casino whenever they got the urge to play.
Paul leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Anne (nee Paraluch), daughters, Sandy and Donna, and son-in-law Gary Scrimshaw. Also left is his brother Bill, sister-in-law Mary Woytowich, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Alec, sister and brother-in-law Anne and John Raichuk, brother-in-law and sister-law John and Mary Paraluch, sister-in-law Isobel Woytowich, and son-in-law Jim Barrett.
A private family graveside service will take place.
