Bernice was born May 14, 1930 to Thomas and Winnifred Southern. Growing up in Weston, Mom attended Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre Schools. Bernice married her school sweetheart, Bill, on September 23, 1950. Bill passed away May 1, 1991. Bernice lived in the family home that was built by Bill for 63 years. After leaving their home, she resided at Misericordia Interim Care, and the last five years at Calvary Place.
Bernice and Bill had many fond memories of their Alexander Avenue home, where neighbours and friends enjoyed good times in Bill's "Dickie Bird Club" (garage). Most of all, raising their family there. Tom and Teresa will cherish the memories forever.
Bernice was an avid bird watcher, as well as enjoying watching rabbits play in the moonlight.
"Grannie", as she was known to most of us, loved to watch figure skating, curling and her beloved Bombers and Jets.
Thank you to all the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for the love and compassion shown to Mom.
In lieu of flowers, we graciously ask that donations be made in memory of Bernice to Wildlife Haven at wildlifehaven.ca (204-878-3740), or Rehabilitation Centre, or a charity of your choice.
Bernice was laid to rest on April 17, 2020, at Brookside Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, a private family gathering will take place.
Mom, Grannie, you left us beautiful memories. Your love is our guide.
Although we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.
