MILDRED ELIZABETH STEPHEN
(nee PIKE)
October 14, 1926 - July 21, 2020
Mildred was the wife of the late James Thom Stephen. A much loved mother of James Norman Stephen (Yvonne), Lorraine Susan Stephen (late Taras), Jeffrey David Stephen and Linda Charlene Stephen (Mark); cherished grandmother of Kelly (Wayne), Scott (Adrian), Catrina (Shauna), Charles, Elizabeth, Madelynn, Ethan and Tarrina; great-grandmother of Kallie, Jamie, Stuart, Ellie, Michael, Katelynn, Jonathan, Blake, Brett and Leliana-Rey; daughter of the late Charles James and Hilda Pike; loving aunt of many nieces and nephews; dear sister of Linda Rose (late Gerald), and her late siblings, Arthur (Susan), Doreen, Charlotte (Frank), Jack, Ronald (Claire). Remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Millie was a woman of numerous talents, not the least of which was her delicious gravy. She was a very good cook and baker. Other talents include sewing, knitting, gardening and crossword puzzles. She could be quite sassy and was known for such feats as dancing in the fountain of a well-known Winnipeg hotel, rowing across Lake Winnipeg and sleeping on a bench at Winnipeg Beach. That was all in her prime years. In her later years she was known for pinching the bottom of a much younger, married man, and stating things quite plainly much to the chagrin of both of her daughters. She had great legs. Her smile was much commented on and appreciated at Donwood. She once told me "if you're walking down the street and you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours".
Millie was a very loving and involved grandmother, Nana and great-grandmother who always had Werther's Originals handy to treat the grandkids with.
Millie was most comfortable in lounge wear or her jammies. Please honour her by wearing comfortable clothing.
As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the animal rescue of your choice.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of 1 North at Donwood Personal Care Home.
