JOHN ALLAN LANG
January 11, 1947 - July 22, 2020

Peacefully, after a long battle with cancer, our beloved John passed away at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 73 years.
He will be sadly missed by his family, many friends and all those he has known over the years. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Kathy; son Chris, daughter-in-law Geneen and granddaughter Renee; daughter Caroline, son-in-law Dave, grandson Alec and granddaughter Avril.
John was born in Winnipeg to Stan and Elsie Lang (nee Bergstrom). He grew up in Winnipeg, and attended Churchill High School. He was a hard worker, generous, and had a good sense of humour. He liked being with people, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He married Kathy Woodcock in 1969, and they had two children, Chris and Caroline.
In 1972, he started a business, Saturn Industries Ltd., which manufactured custom trailers and slings. He spent his life running the business with his partner Keith Fisher, Kathy, Chris and many skilled co-workers he appreciated. He retired in September 2017.
Early on, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. Then in the early 1980s, John and Kathy started building a cottage at Grindstone Provincial Park. This cottage became a great gathering place for family and friends, and was a place John truly loved.
John loved travelling. He had hoped to spend a long retirement in Florida and at Grindstone Park. The time ended up being shorter than expected, but he made the most of it.
Thank you to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre for all the care provided. Thank you to everyone for their kind wishes and support.
Due to Covid-19 precautions, we will be having a small private family service.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, or Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • We were so saddened to hear of John's recent passing. So many fond memories were shared with John and Kathy at Grindstone. John was the initiator and driving force of the Grindstone Days silent auction, which we were recruited to help out with, from shopping for prizes, gathering donations, to organizing and packaging the prizes the night before at their cottage. A gourmet cook, John treated us to numerous get togethers and dinners along with Ray and Judy Poitras, good friends of their family. Many fine bottles of wine were shared by all. We were also blessed to be part of an excursion to Rice River many years ago, where we spent 3 days camping, fishing and exploring the area, a trip we will never forget. Our deepest condolences to you all. John will be truly missed. - Posted by: Tracey and Rob Ediger (Friend) on: Aug 24, 2020

  • Our sincere condolences to you and your family Kathy. Our memories go back to the early days of Grindstone, when you would drive down Mountain Maple for water and drop in. Lately, we had the pleasure of enjoying a Happy Hour (or two) with you both in Florida. Yes, John's retirement was far too short. Thinking of you all, in this time of sorrow. • My thoughts go out to the family during this difficult time. I met John as a kid pumping gas at Churchill Texaco 40 years ago. He loved to give me a hard time but you always knew he was kidding. He would take the time to talk with you. He knew how much I liked his brown Cadillac and one weekend allowed me to use it. Made a big impression on young kid. His generosity continued throughout the years whenever I needed help with a project. Thanks John, you will be missed. - Posted by: Greg Mitchell (Friend) on: Jul 30, 2020
