JESSIE MACKAY
Left to cherish memories of Jessie are her children, Bill (Chris) and Dan (Cheryl), daughters-in-law, Rita and Thelma, and son-in-law Doug (Effie); grandchildren, Michael (Lin), Bobby (Nathalie), Matthew (Reid), Terri-Lynn, Meghan (Marty), Jessica (Jeremy), Shannon (Derrick), Jillian (Grant), Mia, Mandy (Chris), Ava, Jennifer (Brad), Viola (Logan), Sophia (Nolan), Kevin, Melinda, Terina (Jeff), Jamie (Grace), Eileen (Andrew), Steve (Laurie), Tyson (Aynslee), Nathan (Amanda), and Nelson. She will also be lovingly remembered by her many great and great-great-grandchildren, who all share wonderful memories of her.
Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Hector and Viola, brothers, George and Jim, sister Hazel, husband Harry, sons, Gary and Steve, and daughter Penny.
Born in Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Jessie met and married the love of her life, Harry MacKay, on October 10, 1947 in her family home. They were blessed with five children. Harry served with the R.C.A.F., which led to living in several cities in Canada throughout their marriage, eventually settling in Winnipeg after his retirement.
Jessie loved to be with all of her family members, young and old. She especially enjoyed the grandkids' sports, many times taking in four hockey games in one day. On the links, she liked driving the golf cart with whoever in the family would let her drive, cheering on whoever she claimed looked like a 'pro golfer.'
For years, Jessie was involved with the Deer Lodge community club seniors' group, where she met many friends who she travelled, camped and played cards with. She also forged new friendships upon her recent move to the Westhaven assisted living centre, but particularly liked spending time with her longtime friend and neighbour, Rita Shindle.
Jessie had a deep faith and was especially fond of her church family and friends at Crestview United. Christmas was always a special time for her. She loved gathering as much of the family as possible together at Crestview's annual Advent dinner where her kin would take up to 40% of the seating space for one of the dinner time slots. She also enjoyed our more recent tradition of the family skate and potluck where all of us could share in more Christmas fun.
Generous in spirit and kind of heart, Jessie's unconditional loving nature touched the lives of so many people. We were blessed to have her in our lives and will forever hold her close in our hearts.
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Westhaven who cared for Jessie, along with the Winnipeg Paramedics, and the doctors and nurses at Concordia Hospital.
Due to Covid restrictions, we regret the funeral is by invitation only.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, Schizophrenia Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choosing.

Sincere Sympathy to Jessies Family. My Mother Edith Mackenzie, was very close to her Niece Jessie. Mom and Jessie were only 5 years different in age. We had a wonderful visit in 2017 when Bill and Jennifer traveled to Nova Scotia . They came to Moms Nursing Home with Hazel and Colin Brandon, Jessies Sister. In 1973 I visited Harry and Jessie when I was in Winnipeg at U of Man. For Biochemistry. They were the ultimate hosts. My deepest condolences to each of you. Jessie was the best. Love Eleanor and Jim and my Mom Edith Mac Kenzie fro Nova Scotia - Posted by: Eleanor Usher (Cousin) on: Aug 17, 2020

Deepest sympathies to all of Jessie’s family. We at Crestview will miss Jessie. She was so proud of all of her family. She proudly would announce In church any Births, special birthdays, or AnnIversaries of her family members. And she loved to tell us her age. Your family will have many wonderful memories to cherish. Blessings. - Posted by: Marlene Parnell (Crestview family) on: Aug 15, 2020
