GLENN EDWARD LYE
Glenn was born on April 10, 1929 in MacGregor, MB. On October 12, 1949 he was married to his high school sweetheart, Catherine Joyce Lye, in Winnipeg, MB. Glenn and Joyce lived in MacGregor, MB where they raised three children, Gordon, Catherine (Cathy) and James (Jamie). Glenn worked and ran his family business Lye Motors Ltd., tirelessly selling cars, trucks and farm machinery until the passing of his father Ralph. He then concentrated on growing Lye's Home Centre, supplying lumber and hardware needs to the community and contractors who were building residential homes and farm buildings, and Lye's Fertilizer supplying Elephant Band products to farmers around MacGregor. He was mayor of MacGregor for 10 years. Upon selling the business Joyce, Jamie and he moved to Portage la Prairie, MB.
Glenn and Joyce loved dancing, golfing and curling. In 1960 they bought a cottage at Clear Lake in Riding Mountain Provincial Park and spent all their weekends and holidays at the lake entertaining family and friends.
Glenn loved sports. He was an avid New York Yankees, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets fan. He was always busy helping coach youth baseball and hockey teams, manage men's teams, cutting the grass to get the ball diamonds ready for play, and timing and announcing hockey games at the rink. He was an accomplished curler winning the Monarch Life Trophy at the annual MCA bonspiel along with many local bonspiels. Glenn was also a very competitive golfer who loved golfing at the Portage Golf and Country Club with Joyce and all his buddies.
Glenn was predeceased by his father Ralph and mother Kathleen. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his son Gord, his daughter Cathy and husband Bruce Volkart, his son Jamie and wife Lisa Lye; his seven granddaughters, Amanda (Michael), Erryn (Billy), Sarah, Ashlee (Ryan), Allison (Dustin), Kenzie and Kathleen, and four great-grandchildren, Edgar, Elijah, Billy and Blair.

First several years Glenn used to come to MacGregor and do my dad's accounting in his business. He would come once a week. I always looked forward to that day because the three of us would have lunch at Wayne's. Glenn was nice to be around. - Posted by: Kurt Weber (Family friend) on: Feb 21, 2021

Our condolences to Joyce and family with the loss of Glenn. Glenn was kind enough to give the toast to the bride at our wedding many years ago and did a fine job. We will remember him as a funny, caring, family man who gave much to our community. Joyce and Glenn were great friends of my parents - he will be missed. Peggy and I express our deepest sympathy to you Joyce and family . Enjoyed his company , sharing curling stories.Remember him for taking time to coach our high school football team, volunteering with baseball amongst other volunteer work. As a teenager he hired me to wash cars in the car lot and kept me busy .I was most grateful. His father was my god father , Kathleen my good mother , a wonderful family to be sure, May he Rest In Peace. God bless - Posted by: Doug Palmer (Cousin) on: Aug 15, 2020

Such fond memories of the Lyes and Gilberts gathering together for food, music and laughter. Sportsmans Park, Crescent Road and the basement on 3rd street. Perhaps Glenn, Harv and Marj are sharing a rye and water now! Our thoughts are with the family - love to all! - Posted by: Sandi Gilbert (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2020
