STELLA SIDLOWICH
August 1, 1931 August 15, 2020
She will be greatly missed by daughters, Sharon (Rick), Nancy (George), and Lori (Don), grandchildren, Jason, Eric (Maria), Alexi (Gary), Geoffrey (Camille), Carly, Sean (Suzy), and Jillian (Andrew), and great-grandchildren, Liam, Keilan, Kira, Addison and Oliver.
She is also remembered by her brother Joseph (Shirley) and extended family.
Mom has gone to be with her daughter Debbie, sister Jenny, and parents, Anastasia and James Ptashynski.
Born and raised in Chatfield, Manitoba, she moved to Winnipeg as a young adult. Mom was a strong, fiercely independent woman who raised four girls on her own. In the early years with a young family to support, she used her talents as a seamstress to provide for us. She later took a position at Sony/SAAN where she worked for over 25 years in a supervisory role until her retirement. Amazingly somehow Mom got it all done working full time, raising children, sewing for us, cooking, baking, gardening, canning and doing repairs to her house. She was unafraid to tackle any job and believed you could fix anything with some white glue and a few toothpicks.
She took great joy in hosting family dinners and continued this into her 80s. Mom was always ready to add an extra seat at the table for unexpected guests having made sure to make more food than anyone could possibly eat. She excelled in Ukrainian cooking and tried to pass this skill on to us but let us know that we never really reached her standards. Mom, we will keep on trying. In later years she loved to go out dancing and socializing with friends, especially Jean and Abe. As life got easier, Mom also began to travel and was able to visit family and made many trips to the States and her favourite place, Las Vegas.
Mom was strong-willed, opinionated, a tad stubborn and did not hesitate to share her views with you. She was also loving, supportive and enormously proud of us girls, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a remarkable role model for us all. Mom was determined to continue living in her home even as her health deteriorated and life became more difficult. Gratefully she was able to do this. A special thanks to Sharon and Rick who provided most of the support.
Love you and miss you forever, Mom.

So sorry to hear of Stella's passing. Stella was my mentor when I first started working at SAAN Stores. I often think of the things she taught me and the most memorable was to always read over my memos or emails to ensure that the grammar and spelling were correct. May the memories of her console you at this time. - Posted by: Jenny Hildebrand (former coworker) on: Sep 12, 2020

I worked with your Mom at Sony/Saan stores many years ago. She always looked after us younger people in a motherly fashion. We all loved her. She was so proud of her four daughters and spoke very highly of all of you. She went above and beyond to raise four children on her own. Quite a feat. I'm glad she was able to enjoy some good times just for herself in her retirement years. Love you Stella. - Posted by: donna glowasky (co-worker) on: Aug 22, 2020
