WILLIAM (BRUCE) GRIFFITHS
April 9, 1939 – August 24, 2020

Bruce Griffiths passed away peacefully on August 24, 2020 after a day surrounded by family while listening to some of his favourite music by Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra.
Bruce was born April 9, 1939 to the late John and Lavina Griffiths. He was the younger brother to Ron (deceased) and Dave. He grew up in Crescentwood, graduated from Kelvin High School and went on to United College to earn a degree in history. He married Virgina (Gini) in 1967 and had one son Greg in 1971. Bruce was a very involved dad to Greg in his youth, coaching many of his sports teams. This led to years of involvement and volunteering at Waverley Heights Community Club in various positions including coach, hockey and soccer director, vice president and president. If there was ever a team in desperate need of a coach whether Greg played on it or not, you could count on Bruce to coach the team! In 1983 he was awarded the Mayor's award for leadership and service to the community. Bruce was a friend and second dad to many of Greg's friends over the years and he cherished great memories from that time. He always wanted to know what "the boys" were up to right up until his final days.
After a long and successful career in industrial sales, Bruce retired from A. Adams Supply in August of 2003. During his retirement he travelled the world, taking many cruises. Bruce had a passion for history, world politics, music and movies.
Bruce is survived by his son Greg, daughter-in-law Shannon and two grandchildren, Brianna and Brett. Also survived by his brother Dave, sister-in-law Marilyn and nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and Toronto.
Greg would like to thank his cousins, Darrin and Blake Griffiths for their continued support of Dad right up to the end. The many "last" visits into Winnipeg and phone calls to Dad were greatly appreciated.
No service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to Special Olympics Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Bruce was a great man who was kind, giving, and very funny. I remember visiting him in Winnipeg when I was very young and always looking forward to it; Bruce cared about people and that was evident the moment you connected with him. His knowledge of history and current events was amazing and I joked with him before ending a telephone conversation that I would be devoting the time between calls to studying so I could sound intelligent when talking with him. Even with studying I could not keep up to him. Bruce loved his son Greg and was incredibly proud of him and that was always part of our conversations too. I will miss Bruce as he was a great man, a great honourable man who cared deeply about others. Oh yeah, he used to tell us that he once wrestled a bear and back then he was 6'4" and 230 pounds (we believed him then and I think most of us still do now). Rest in peace Bruce. - Posted by: Darrin Griffiths (nephew) on: Sep 04, 2020
