ANITA DARLENE VANDERSTEL
Anita will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kevin and her daughters, Lindsay (18) and Ashley (12). She is also survived by her mother, Emma Horvath (Salamon), who currently resides at the Red River Place Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Manitoba. She is further survived by her close cousin Shirley Pothe, along with Joey and Suzanne Pothe, and family. Anita was predeceased by her father Charles Horvath.
Anita graduated from Transcona Collegiate Institute in 1984. She went on to attend and graduate from the University of Winnipeg obtaining a Bachelor of Science, specializing in chemistry. She was offered a scholarship to pursue her Masters, but she declined, as she didn't want to move from her home. While attending the University of Winnipeg, she worked part-time at the Eaton's food court in downtown Winnipeg. She also had a summer job, working in chemistry labs at the University of Winnipeg. She eventually obtained a summer student position with the City of Winnipeg and went on to work for 28 years, mainly at the North End Treatment Plant, with the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department. In August 2018, she retired from the City of Winnipeg and her role as a Senior Lab Technician.
Anita was very close with and loved her family deeply. She loved and adored her many friends too. She also loved photography, gardening, camping, travelling, music particularly the "Rolling Stones" and The Foo Fighters. She loved animals of all types but dearly loved her pug dogs, Bambi and Mocha.
Anita also had a wonderful sense of humour, loved to laugh. She liked to tease and play around a lot with people, but always in good fun. She valued close friends and former co-workers, who gave her a tremendous amount of support, even on a daily basis, which also helped her navigate through some of her most difficult days this past year.
Anita, you are forever loved by so many
and will be terribly missed by all who were blessed by your presence. We are comforted by the knowledge that you are now with
your Heavenly Father, with no anguish or suffering of any kind.
Lots of love forever and always,
Kevin, Lindsay and Ashley.
Special thanks to Dr. Kristjan Paulson and the medical staff at HSC's D6 ward, as well as the staff of CancerCare Manitoba. Also special thanks to all the families, friends, neighbours and also co-workers from both the City of Winnipeg and the Bank of Montreal, as all who so graciously donated their time, meals and monetary support, there are far too many to mention. We are forever thankful and grateful to you all.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)
I was shocked to hear of Anita’s passing. We were great friends in high school and I have many fond memories of all the fun times we shared. Though life took us in different directions over the years, we did run into each other occasionally and I was so happy that she found Kevin to share her life with. My deepest condolences to Kevin and family. She will be missed. - Posted by: Patty Kuczer Simpson (Friend from school) on: Sep 05, 2020
My deepest sympathy to Kevin and the girls and Emma. May Anita rest in peace with no pain. The church believes that suffering makes one holy. The Lord be with all of you. Anita was impressive with her deep intellect, amazing sense of humor, and above all kind and tender with her mom, her children and everyone she came in to contact with. The Lord has a plan and he needs Anita for something in Heaven. - Posted by: Kim Goolia (Accountant & Friend) on: Sep 05, 2020

My deepest condolences to Anita's family. Though I only knew Anita for a couple of years while working at the drinking Water Treatment Plant I always remember her as a friendly, honest, humorous and wonderful person. (I also recall she liked Cheap Trick as well!) Take care. - Posted by: James Mitchell (Ex co-worker) on: Aug 29, 2020
