H. LOUISE JOHNSON

It is with great sadness that the family of Louise Johnson announces her passing, on Monday, September 28, 2020, at the age of 90 years, in the company of her loving children, Pamela and Craig.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Bruce (Theresa) and granddaughter Rebecca (Paulo Fernandes); daughter, Pamela Tetlock (nee Johnson) (Goldie) and granddaughter Carmen and grandson Victor; son Craig (Brenda nee Krashel) and granddaughter Hannah, and grandsons, Jaden and Reese. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Ernie and eldest son, Paul (Cynthia).
Louise was born in Winnipeg on May 4, 1930, only child of Winnie and Buell Tetlock. As a girl, she lived with her beloved grandma Elin and many aunties until junior high. She developed a love for reading from her Grandpa Grimer and read everything because, as she often said later in life, "inquiring minds want to know". Her reading material included the Bible, Reader's Digest and mystery novels.
When she joined the Girl Guides in junior high, Louise impressed the leader with her beautiful singing voice. She introduced Louise to Herb Belyea, choir director, eventually leading her to church and it's choir community. At the age of 15, Louise was confirmed in the Anglican Church, which began a lifelong commitment to her faith. It was around this time she met Ernest Johnson, the love of her life. Louise and Ernie were married on May 30, 1951. Together they had four children, whom they loved, supported and encouraged.
She enjoyed many activities such as tennis, skiing, and riding her bicycle. She particularly enjoyed roller skating everywhere, and when dating, would often drag Ernie to the roller rink to join in on the fun. Later on, she also curled and bowled weekly and was an enthusiastic supporter of TV sports including the CFL football, curling, hockey and ice dancing.
Louise enjoyed working at The Great-West Life Assurance Company as a calculator, processing tables, and keeping meticulous books. She also worked nights at Manitoba Telephone answering and volunteered as a secretary for the Winnipeg Music Festival. Louise was also an excellent typist, likely earning an honorary degree, as she prepared many essays and Ernie's Masters thesis.
Louise had a beautiful voice. As a young woman, she performed on the radio and was known for singing "Danny Boy" and "Summertime". Louise sang in many choirs, where she was often asked to sing solos. She particularly enjoyed the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan and sang in the Gilbert and Sullivan choir, along with Ernie for many years. Louise passed her love of singing to her children. She sang into her late 80s and enjoyed being a part of the glee club at Thorvaldson's Care Centre.
Louise was very creative, often mastering anything she put her hand to. Her pursuits included, sewing, stained glass, woodworking, upholstery, furniture refinishing, poetry and baking. She is fondly remembered for her inventive costumes she made for her kids.
Louise made every celebration special for the family. No matter what the occasion, she would put up decorations, make special meals, and buy presents and treats...always making things fun.
Louise loved time spent at the cottage. She created a wonderful place for the kids to grow up during the summer months. Here, Louise and Ernie frequently read, played cribbage together, and made friends.
On April 11, 1993, Louise lost her beloved husband Ernie. Theirs was a love so deep that she never quite got over his passing.
Louise loved all six of her grandchildren dearly. She took very good care of them, spending many hours babysitting and helping raise them like a second mom. She was always ready and excited to have them visit. The grandkids knew she was always good for a frozen Oreo and even a taste of coffee.
Louise was generous with her time, talents and resources. She gave to the community, her church, friends and family. She enjoyed volunteering as a Scout leader and encouraging service to the community. Mom's kitchen was home to all friends, where she always had time for tea and a biscuit. Louise made friends everywhere she went. She was well loved.
Special thanks to the staff at Tuxedo Villa. We deeply appreciate your respectful and loving care that you provided Mom and the support for our family - we're sure she loved you too.
Louise (Mom), leaves a legacy of home, love, faith, family, friendship, music and joy.
A private funeral and interment was held on Friday, October 2, 2020. A public Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
