HEDWIG MASKUS
(nee HOPTING)
1927 - 2020

It is with great sadness that the Maskus family announces the passing of our dear mother Hedwig (Hedi). Oma was a resident of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg for the last six and a half years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Werner (Debbie), Erwin (Edith), and Rolfe (Virginia); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Helmut in 2003; one brother and two sisters.
Mom and Dad arrived in Winnipeg from Germany in 1953. Mom worked as a health care aide until the arrival of their second son, and then became a full time homemaker. In 1960 the family moved into their new home they had built in the RM of Charleswood and resided on the same street for 53 years until her move to the care home. Mom enjoyed gardening, canning, auction sales, furniture refinishing, philately, and most of all fishing.

We love you mom,
God bless you and sleep well.

Due to Covid 19, a private family service will be held in the coming days.

  • We are saddened to hear of your Mom's passing Rolfe (Virginia) .Ever since the passing of his father Helmut, Rolfe has taken care of his mother, tending to her every need with love and compassion. Mrs. Maskus was very fortunate to have a caring and loving son like Rolfe. I am sure she will be greatly missed, but she is now with her beloved husband, safe and free of pain. Our sincere sympathy.
