LORNA MARIE WILDEMAN
(nee COWIE)

Lorna passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020, at the age of 66 years, after battling pancreatic cancer for 12 months.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband George, of 47 years; daughter Shayla (Chris) Therrien, granddaughter Jordan; son Kelby (Kylie), grandchildren, Brooklyn, Carter and Aria; brother Cecil (Delaine) Cowie; sister-in-law Sandra Creed, and many nieces and nephews. Lorna was predeceased by her brother Ken in 2004, and her parents, Leonard and Edith Cowie in 2014.
Lorna was born July 29, 1954, in Winnipeg, MB and lived her whole life in the St. James area. She graduated from John Taylor Collegiate (1972) and started working for CIBC shortly after graduation. In 1985 she started working at Rae & Jerry's Steak House, in the office, and retired from there July 2019. She held the treasurer's position at AWRA for four years and AMCC for another four years. She also enjoyed being manager of her son's hockey teams for 12 years.
Lorna enjoyed playing and watching sports. She was a curler, and in her younger days a softball player. She loved to watch the Toronto Blue Jays, the Winnipeg Jets, NY Giants football games and curling on TV. She enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean and Alaska as well as vacationing at resorts in Mexico during the winter months.
In closing, the family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who provided encouragement, support and helped us in our hours of need. Thank you to the Palliative Care team, home care workers, Dr. H. Gooi, Dr. Kowaluk and Dr. Ralph Wong and staff at CancerCare at St. Boniface Hospital. A special thanks to Steve and Maureen at Rae & Jerry's for your support.
Cremation has taken place and due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens for ash interment. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rae & Jerry's Steak House, 1405 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB by invitation only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Manitoba at mssociety.ca

  • So shocked to hear about Lorna. She was my skip for many years in the women’s curling league and liked to tease her about having to always play 8 ends. The time spent chatting afterwards will be remembered. She was a favourite Avon customer too! May the memories you cherish bring you comfort and warm your heart. My deepest condolences. - Posted by: Kelly Dowling (Friend) on: Oct 18, 2020

  • So sad to hear of Lorna's passing. Lots of fond memories playing mixed slo-pitch with the Cosmos and George and Lorna were the glue for that team. Condolences to George and family on your loss, Lorna was a spitfire on the field and a really nice person off of it. - Posted by: Rick Brownlee (Friend) on: Oct 13, 2020

  • George, I am so sorry to hear that Lorna passed away. I remember when the two of you used to hang out with Gary and his girlfriend. It sounds like the two of you have had a great life together and Lorna had many interests. It is amazing that she survived pancreatic cancer for so long. She was far too young to die. Take care of yourself. Give yourself time to grieve and let the memories of Lorna help you to heal. God bless you. - Posted by: Donna Friesen (Lee) (Friend) on: Oct 13, 2020

  • Will always remember her. We had lots of fun over the curling seasons in our mix ladies leagues and bonspiels. George you would come and pick us up so we didn't have to worry about drinking and driving and enjoyed the games. Thinking about you and the family. - Posted by: Madeline Chaytor (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2020
