MONA GRACE GOODMAN
(HEUGH)
November 5, 1922 - October 19, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Donwood Manor, with family at her side.
Mona was predeceased by her husband John Ashford Goodman, parents, Percy and Jane Heugh, brother Robert Heugh, and sister May Schreiber.
Left to cherish Mona's memory are her children, Gloria, Valerie (David), Lynn (Terry), Steve (Leslie) and Glenn, her very special granddaughter Naomi (Jeremy), and nieces and nephew.
Mona was born in Lac Vert, Saskatchewan on November 5, 1922. Upon completion of her public education, Mona served in the R.C.A.F. from 1942 to 1946, stationed in Boundary Bay and Patricia Bay, British Columbia. After her discharge, Mona moved to Winnipeg and worked as an elevator operator at Eaton's mail order.
Mona met the love of her life, John Ashford Goodman, at the Normandy Dance Hall where he swept her off her feet and they married on July 27, 1951 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. While raising their family together, Mona continued to work as a chef and fashion consultant at Sears.
Mona will be remembered for her strong will, determination and independence. She was very generous in giving back to the community and having lived through the depression, she embraced the meaning of reduce, reuse and upcycle. She was incredibly resourceful and ahead of her time. Mona was a woman of many talents including horticulture, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed playing bingo and crib and spent many hours on puzzles and word searches. Mona was an avid bowler twice a week until the age of 90 and loved following sports and travelling with family and friends. Her love for animals began as a child and continued throughout her life.
Mona will be missed by her family, friends and acquaintances too numerous to mention.
Our family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Donwood Manor for their compassionate care during the last six years. Please know that you truly made a difference in our lives!
A private service was held at Glen Eden Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Donwood Personal Care Home or the Humane Society.

  • I knew Mona as the truly special Mother of my Son-in-law, Steve. We did not meet often because of living in different Provinces, however, from Steve and my daughter, I heard of her many qualities and talents. I saw in Steve the reflection of her goodness, and the love and admiration he held for such a remarkable Lady. She was the most able Matriarch of a fine Family, and she will be revered and lovingly remembered by all of them. I know they will be comforted by their precious memories, and they have my sincerest sympathy. Anne Ayre. - Posted by: Anne M. Ayre (Mother-in-law of Mona’s son, Steve.) on: Oct 24, 2020
