LORRAINE BELLE WHITE
(nee SWITZER)

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, Lorraine passed away peacefully at Misericordia Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents, Sidney and Kate Switzer; husband, Donald (2006); brother, Arthur (2000); sisters, Kay (2016) and Edith (2016); and brother-in-law, Art (2017).
She leaves to mourn her daughter, Sandra (Geoff); granddaughters, Catriona and Samantha; granddog, Olivia; as well as brother-in-law, Boris and family, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lorraine was born in Winnipeg on February 18, 1940. She grew up there but spent many summers at the family farm in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. She worked at the Grain Exchange before her marriage, and later at Nesbitt Thompson, Neil Bardal, and as a medical receptionist. Whatever she did, she gave her best effort.
Lorraine was a very independent, loving, loyal and imaginative woman. She had a quick wit and, along with her brother Art, a love of puns. She had lots of hobbies and was always learning new things. She had always enjoyed piano, so she taught herself to play many of the classical pieces she loved. She was a talented artist, painting many pictures in both acrylic and watercolour, and was a student of the Forum Art Centre for many years. She was also skilled at sewing and needlework and she made many toys, costumes and clothes for the family. Lorraine was a fantastic cook who always challenged herself with new recipes. She made many wedding cakes for friends and family over the years too. The youngsters will always remember the Krispie cake best though (two kinds!). History was one of her many interests and she was the unofficial family historian. Lorraine loved to travel and made several trips to Hawaii, the US, Britain and Europe.
Above all, Lorraine was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her family. Her happiest times were spent with family, and she loved watching her grandchildren, nieces and nephews grow up. Along with Don, she spent many hours looking after them when they were little and loved every minute.
At Lorraine's request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Lots of good memories when I was younger and living in Manitoba. Her Grandma was also my grandma and lived on the farm next to our farm. Lorraine spent a lot of time on summer holidays coming over to our place. My sister Janet, Lorraine and I had a lot of good times. My Dad, her Uncle John and my mom Auntie Rose enjoyed her visits also. She was a kind and beautiful person and will be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Cathy Nowosad (Cousin) on: Nov 22, 2020
