ELSIE ESTHER SOMMERFELD
(nee SIMARD)
January 18, 1945 - October 24, 2020

After a four year courageous battle with breast cancer, Elsie passed away peacefully on October 24 at the age of 75 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Horst, her daughters, Sandra "Sam" (Gerald), Kierra, Sherry (George) and
Christine (Johan) including nine grand-children and seven great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She also leaves
behind five brothers, Henry, Ted, Herman, Hank, Wes and five sisters, Agnes, Bertha, Louise, Doreen, and Shirley along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Matilda, her sisters, Catherine and Aurillia and brother Elmer.
Elsie was born in Wanipigow, MB, but lived most of her life in Winnipeg. She had a hard life, but it never slowed her down. Her family often lovingly called her the "energizer
bunny". She was a hard worker full of
courage and strength which she attributed to God. Elsie was a dedicated Health Care
worker caring for the elderly at Heritage Lodge for over 25 years. She was also known for her generosity and selflessness, putting everyone's needs above her own. She loved camping, spending time outdoors, cheering for the Jets and thrift store shopping. In her younger years she loved to cook and bake. Most importantly Mom loved Jesus and she prayed for her family every day. In her later years spending time with her grandchildren brought her the most joy. She loved them fiercely and cared for each as if they were her own.
Mom you will be missed and we are sad to see you go, but we know you are in a better place dancing with the angels. We will see you on the other side.
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes, there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away".

Rev. 21:4

  • Elsie was one of the most beautiful souls I have ever known. Her selflessness and concern for everyone else around her above herself was awe-inspiring. This world is a much lesser place without her. So much love and prayers for Horst and her entire family. - Posted by: Darryl Mills (Friend) on: Oct 31, 2020
