VIOLET MACLACHLAN
(DRABIK)
August 24, 1922 - November 3, 2020

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Violet MacLachlan in Winnipeg on November 3, 2020, at the age of 98 years.
Violet was predeceased by her husband Douglas A. MacLachlan; son Douglas L. MacLachlan; and daughter Joy MacLachlan.
Violet will be sadly missed by her daughter Helen (Bruce); and her many grandchildren who were her life, Jennifer, Derek, Sarah, Cameron, Leonard, Michael and Christine. She also was so happy to have her great-grandchildren, Kyus, Charlotte, Mason and newly born Halle. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Violet led a long full life and cherished all her family dearly. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was always talking up a storm with lots of great stories of her past, she had an incredible memory too! She was a strong, feisty, independent woman but had a softer caring side for her loved ones. She also loved flowers and her gardens and definitely had a green thumb. She was an amazing cook, always creating delicious meals for her family with lots of her traditional Polish dishes. Violet loved nature and loved going for walks when she could in Assiniboine Park and especially used to love the old flower Conservatory in Winnipeg.
She will be missed my many, but her stories and memories will live on.
There will not be any service for Violet at this time, but hopefully in the summer the family can gather to celebrate her life.
Those who wish may make a donation to the Winnipeg Grace Hospital Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I used to babysit for Vi and Doug many years ago, when they lived on Harcourt St. I remember babysitting one special night .... it was the very first time I had seen a T.V.. I watched the "Ed Sullivan Show". I couldn't believe that I was watching this magical T.V., and getting paid to do it! They always had the 3 children bathed and in bed. Vi and Doug were very generous .... they once took me to Kenora with the whole family ....they made me feel like family! I babysat sometimes when they had moved to Linwood St. also. We moved to Fort William and Kenora for a few years, but later when we moved back to Winnipeg, I saw her several times in Oakview Nursing Home.... she remembered me, my children, and my husband by name. I last visited her in December of last year, before the Covid struck. It was nice to reminisce about the days gone by. I will always remember this wonderful lady. She is someone who I will never forget ... she suffered the loss of her husband and 2 of her children, and yet was always interested in "your life", and what was happening to you. R.I.P. Vi .... you taught me so much about living a good life .... I'll always remember you with love and admiration.
