JIM SCHAEFER

On November 11, 2020, Jim passed away suddenly at the age of 56.
He is survived by his father Dennis, (Sandra), brother Dave (Katherine), niece Amber and fiancée Jennifer. He was predeceased by his mother Elaine.
Born May 21, 1964, Jim grew up in Winnipeg and attended Windsor Park Collegiate. He worked briefly as a realtor but primarily as a Customer Service Representative at Canada Safeway.
Jim was a Certified Brew Master and won the Winnipeg Sun Brew Doctor brewing contest two consecutive years then became a judge of that contest. An excellent fly fisherman, Jim earned two Master Angler certificates for Catfish and Small-Mouth Bass. He also constructed and sold fly lures through distributors. Jim constructed and launched high-powered rockets as a member of the Canadian Association of Rocketry. Jim was also an avid skydiver and mentor to students in his youth.
Jim had experiences with unexplained phenomena and believed in the possibilities of extraterrestrial life. His research is documented in several texts. He enjoyed astronomy, fishkeeping, gardening, and cooking and was exceptional at everything he focused on. He loved nature and wildlife and enjoyed spending time at the family cabin.
Jim was spiritual, loving and unique. He loved his family and friends and displayed great faith and morality throughout his life. Forever in our hearts.

  • Upon just recently hearing of Jim's passing we would now like to share our deepest sympathy to you and your families. - Posted by: Donald and Doreen Benzies (Friend and Neighbor) on: Dec 07, 2020

  • Mr. Schaefer, Dave and family- I’m very sorry for your loss. Jim and I spent much of our teen years hanging out doing stuff that usually revolved around music and beer. Easily the biggest Van Halen fan I knew, I remember him talking me into going to see the band with him at the Convention Centre in 1979. At the time, I didn’t want to go, but I’m sure glad I did. We would talk about that show for many years and the many more Jim saw in Minneapolis and elsewhere. Many good times spent at the lake and at my parent’s farm. So long ago, we lost touch… Rest in Peace, amigo. - Posted by: Charlie P. (Friend) on: Nov 30, 2020

  • Uncle Jim, it breaks my heart to have lost you so soon. I wish we could've spent more time together as a family over the years. I also wish I could've done more to ease your struggles. I have thought of memories of all of us together during Christmases and Birthdays. You could connect with many different people. You had an open heart and mind to delve into all sorts of conversations. It was clear that you had many talents, through the stories you'd share and the stories I've heard from my Dad and Papa. I remember getting the most thoughtful cards at Christmas and birthdays with caring messages that reflected how spiritual and caring you were. You are missed. With love from your Goddaughter. - Posted by: Amber Schaefer (Goddaughter/niece) on: Nov 28, 2020
