DARREN ARTHUR EHMANN
December 30, 1969 - November 15, 2020
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Kayla, mother Muriel, sister Connie (Dale, Hayden, Thea); brothers, Elliott, Ken (Nancy) along with uncle Emil, large extended family and his friends. Darren was predeceased by his father Arthur, and his niece, our family angel Ainsley.
Darren was born in Winnipeg and raised in the Garden City area of town. He grew up playing all sports with his siblings and neighbourhood buddies. Darren loved the family camping trips where he fined tuned his fishing skills. Darren's career path as a teacher took him to remote parts of the province. He loved teaching the kids and being able to hunt and fish on his days off. Darren's beloved daughter Kayla was born and his life changed forever. Darren later moved closer to the city continuing his teaching career in the Frontier School Division. Most recently working in Pine Falls. Darren loved watching Kayla grow up. He enjoyed driving her around and watching all of her soccer games. He never missed a match. Darren was a proud father when Kayla graduated high school this year. Kayla you brought your dad so much happiness and he did everything he could to do the same for you. You mean the world to him and always will.
Darren was an avid Jets and Blue Bomber fan. He was thrilled that he was able to witness the Grey Cup come back to Winnipeg. He loved golfing and slow pitch baseball. He will be sadly missed on the fairways or at the beer gardens enjoying a cold beverage and telling a bad joke or two. Darren loved being at the Idle Wheels RV park in Gimli with his mom. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the park and the campfires telling stories or just watching the game on TV outdoors.
A special thanks to Darren's entire CancerCare team across the Province. There are no words to express our gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the care Darren received on his final days.
Darren will be interred at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. A small service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Due to Covid restrictions only immediate family are able to attend. The service will be streamed at - http://www.livememorialservices.com/Home/ServiceDetail/7906.

My condolences to the Ehmann family including Kayla. So many memories my friend, from bus rides to school, coaching you in volleyball, playing baseball with you and winning numerous championships and tournaments and celebrating in the beer gardens, camping, bar hopping, karaoke, I still remember all of them like it was just yesterday. I will truly miss you and your smiling face. You can spend some time with your Dad now. Until our next tee time, rest easy buddy. - Posted by: Russ Pich (Longtime Friend ) on: Nov 20, 2020

My sister Susan and I were in shock when we heard. Darren was a very nice and gentle person. He was always friendly and positive. We were neighbors with the Ehmann Family in Garden City on Payne St. I got the chance to babysit all the kids on a few occasions and always had a good, fun time with them playing games indoors and street hockey and football outside. I had Darren substitute teach for me several times in Seven Oaks and he always did a great job and always got along well with students and staff. Our condolences go out to the Ehmann Family and to Darren's daughter Kayla. Take care of each other. We are deeply saddened by Darren's passing. Rest in peace Darren! - Posted by: Mark Leskiw (Friend and old neighbor) on: Nov 19, 2020

It's a shock to hear of the passing of Darren. I got to know Darren personally during a school trip. We shared laughs and we also had some disagreements but learned to be professionally about it. Darren was instrumental in building a shelter for our Land Base program and it's still in use today. He sure enjoyed the outdoors and his sports. Extending my condolences to his family especially his daughter whom he always talked about. May God comfort you all. - Posted by: Nancy Whiteway (Former CoWorker) on: Nov 18, 2020

I would like to say how sorry I was to hear of Darren's passing and would like to offer my condolences to Kayla and her family. I first met Darren while coaching Kayla on the soccer pitch and later as a fellow soccer Dad. I always enjoyed our conversations on the sidelines and respected his passion for sport and his enthusiasm whenever Kayla made a great play or scored a goal. He will be missed. - Posted by: Steve Peck (fellow soccer Dad) on: Nov 18, 2020

My sincere condolences to the entire Ehmann family. Old days of street hockey, football in the park by Macklin and Richardson, and swinging a 9 iron in the field at Collicutt school come to mind when I think of Darren. Gone too soon. Rest easy. - Posted by: Bob Cymbalisty (Old Friend) on: Nov 18, 2020

Darren was all about sports and how he could help students achieve athletic growth. Darren really enjoyed his skills as a referee especially when it was volleyball or basketball. Darren often accompanied our students on sports trips as a coach and chaperone. He taught many of our students archery and was always extremely excited when the children found success. Darren will be missed. On behalf of the staff at Black River I offer our deepest sympathies and our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Ron Head (Colleague - Principal at Black River Anishinabe School) on: Nov 18, 2020

I am very saddened to learn of Darren's passing. He and I were part of the staff at Black River School. He was such an outgoing, cheery, larger than life sort of person, always commenting on upcoming sporting events in detail. Darren was particularly in his element working with students during Phys.Ed. classes. He often spoke about his daughter and how proud he was of her. One of Darren's favorite phrases was "it is what it is" and next thing we knew, he had everyone in the school saying it. Rest in Peace, Darren. - Posted by: Linda Wotton (Colleague) on: Nov 18, 2020
