EMILY PARK
(nee OGRODNICK)
October 29, 1927 November 23, 2020
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Carol (Bill) Thompson, her son Randy (Cecile), grandchildren, Brendon (Dayna), Kristin (Nick) and Alex (Bailey); brother Lawrence (Joan) Ogrodnick of Maple Ridge, BC, sister Frieda Bloomberg of Toronto, ON, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emily was predeceased by her husband Ken, in 1995. She was also predeceased by her parents Nicolas and Jenny, infant sister Ida, and brother Steve Ogrodnick, all of The Pas, Manitoba.
Mom was born and raised in The Pas. She spoke fondly of her childhood, despite the tough times growing up during the Depression. She loved the north with its fresh air and clear water. In 1946, she moved to Winnipeg where she began working at the Eaton's Mail Order Building and at the Times Theater. While working at the Times Theater, she met her future husband Ken, who was the neighbourhood police constable. After their wedding in 1954, they made their life-long home in the North End, where they raised their family.
Mom was a very kind person who devoted her life to her husband and children. She was a loving mother and homemaker, who took great pride in her home. Her house was always immaculately kept and she loved to decorate. Emily was a good cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially over the holidays by making our favorite Ukrainian dishes. An excellent baker, there was always a delicious desert ready for friends when they dropped in. Her chocolate cake was legendary.
Mom loved the neighbourhood and enjoyed the friendships she made with her neighbours. She looked forward to the weekly Thursday gatherings of the "Coffee Club". Along with Ken, she enjoyed league bowling with friends and family at the Mosienko lanes. In recent years, she loved playing bingo and spending time with her "bingo buddies". She was an avid Jets fan who never missed a televised game, and never missed an opportunity to critique it afterwards. She absolutely loved family gatherings, was proud of her grandchildren and loved spoiling them.
Emily had a heart of gold and will be remembered by all for her generosity. She was a strong, lively person who loved to laugh and who enjoyed good conversations. Her strong work ethic, constant smile and endless optimism were inspirational; qualities which never left her and ones she instilled into her children and grandchildren.
Thank you, Mom, for being you, and for all that you did for us. We love you; we will miss you and your beautiful smile.
Due to the current health restrictions, a celebration of her life will take place in the summer of 2021.
A special thank you to the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
Flowers are respectfully declined. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
