MARIE REBECCA KEITH-ZARYCKYJ
October 3, 1924 - November 28, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Marie Zaryckyj, formerly Marie Keith.
Mom was born Mary Rebecca Hladun but was known throughout her life as Marie. She was born and raised in the Arborg area of Manitoba. In 1946 she married the love of her life, Wilbert Awrey Keith, and they farmed in the Otterburn area. In 1952 Wilbert and Marie quit farming and moved into St. Vital, Winnipeg. A few years after, Wilbert built the family home on St. Vital Road. For the next two decades Marie was busy raising her four kids. Mom was always busy doing something. She was a very good gardener, a very competent sewer, and an excellent baker, having won many prizes in fairs for her breads and cakes.
She spent many hours weaving rugs, knitting, and creating beautiful quilts that she gave to her family. She always enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, and especially loved the family reunions.
She enjoyed square dancing with Wilbert, and camping and fishing with the whole family. Wilbert passed away in 1973, and Marie remarried to Wasyl "Bill" Zaryckyj. Marie spent many summers at the cabin at Lester Beach. Upon Bill's passing, Marie continued to go to the Lester Beach cabin and met her special friend and companion, Mike Bobko, who was well loved by the family until his passing.
Marie was predeceased by her grandson, Robert John Ruhr, in 2018; and is survived by children, Ivy Ruhr (Chris), Frances Cruickshank (Garry), Donna Friesen (Ken) and Don Keith (Shirley). Also left to mourn are grandchildren, Cameron Cruickshank, Heather Cruickshank (Dan Gray), Dan Cruickshank (Janet Zhao), Jamie Cole (Nathan), Christy Friesen, Laura Yui-Keith (Kousaku Yui), Andrew Keith (Maia Stark); and great-grandchildren, Ronin Cruickshank, Tori Cruickshank, Hailie Friesen, Caitlin Friesen, Aiko Yui and Callie Cole.

She will be greatly missed
but never forgotten.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Marie's care companions, Laylee and Rosa, and to the staff at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to River Park Gardens, 735 St. Anne's Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2N 0C5, CancerCare Manitoba, or any charity of your choice.
Due to Covid-19, there will be no funeral service. A private gathering will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Marie was a favourite auntie when we were kids and played in the little house in her backyard. She was always so welcoming to me and my brothers, Keith & Tim when we visited from the west coast. There were always lots of goodies in the kitchen to eat and I remember the little cookies Marie made at Christmas time. Along with Wilbert's jokes and the fun we had with our cousins, visits to Marie's home are a great memory from our childhood. - Posted by: Barbara Porth (Niece) on: Dec 07, 2020

  • Sorry to hear another family member gone. Our thoughts are with the family. Darlene - Posted by: Darlene Cottrell (neice) on: Dec 07, 2020
