MARIA TSAPRALIS

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Maria was born in Kozani, Greece and raised in Athens. There she apprenticed as a seamstress in a bridal boutique which she loved and carried her passion into her new adventure to Canada. In 1956, she answered her sister Anthoula's request to come join her in Canada. Maria became part of the fundraising efforts to open the first Greek church in Winnipeg. Maria loved her work with a longtime relationship with the Eaton's company downtown which as she said if it did not close down she would have still continued to work. Maria also enjoyed her involvement with the Daughters of Penelope women's auxiliary. She enjoyed visiting with her Deer Lodge neighbours and friends that always had time for a chat and asking for her wellbeing.
She will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Penelope and her husband Sakis; her son Nicholas; grandchildren, Angelo, Daniel and Amanda Calas; and great-grandchildren, Alexandros, Andonis, and Andreas. She will be remembered by her dear brother Vassilis and sister-in-law Valia; sister Anthoula, and twin sister Eleni, with many nieces and nephews, koumbari and dear friends. She will be remembered by all who knew her because of her love and compassion that she displayed to her loved ones.
Our entire family wishes to thank her St. Demetrios family that shared their time and love with her. To all the health care providers, doctors, nurses and dietary staff at the Charleswood Care Centre; who graciously and respectfully cared for her, we are truly thankful to them.

We pray for her safe deliverance
into peace and serenity.
May her memory be eternal.

A private service due to the COVID19 restrictions will be officiated by Fr. Nicholas Tambakis at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral Services will take place with interment to follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • On behalf of my family, I express our deepest sorrow and offer our prayers to the family of Maria Tsapralis. “Nouna” was a kind, soft-spoken, and generous person who had compassion in seeking positive aspects of life for many family members and friends. Her many family visits over the years are fondly remembered. In addition, her commitment to the Greek community and Hellenism is remembered whole-hardheartedly by many; particularly by the role she played with the Daughter of Penelope – Elysia Winnipeg Chapter 124. It was once said: “Kindness is the begetter of kindness” (Sophocles). Nouna’s life contributes to the expansion of that quality to many of our lives.
