MARGARET LYSACK
Margaret is forever cherished by her husband of 56 years, Michael, and by her four children, Steven (Catherine); Krista (Christopher); Nathan (Katherine); and Alissa (Christopher); and by her grandchildren, Ethan, Paige, and Madelyn. She will be missed by her many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, George and Kathleen Manley, and by her brother, Ralph.
She was born in North Vancouver in 1944, where she grew up in the laughter and embrace of her family and extended family, and where she enjoyed her activities and playmates at school and at church. Several moves, including time spent living in Kamloops and Victoria, meant that Margaret learned how to begin new adventures and to make friends with ease. After graduating from high school in Burnaby, she went on to work in the secretary pool at the British Columbia Telephone Company. In the fall of 1963, she entered the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary. It was there that she met Michael, who thought her the most beautiful girl at the school.
They married in October 1964 and returned to Michael's family farm in the Swan River Valley, Manitoba, spending the next four decades in pedigreed seed production and raising their four children. Margaret once again made numerous friendships, which have lasted a lifetime. She made many contributions as a member of the First Baptist Church, and she took pleasure in her work as an Educational Assistant at Minitonas Intermediate School for a number of years.
Following retirement from farming in 2004, Margaret and Michael moved from the Valley to Winnipeg, where they settled into the Whyte Ridge community. Here again, Margaret made new friends but always kept her previous ones. She embraced reading and writing poetry, and working as a layperson in Stephen Ministries through Grant Memorial Baptist Church. She took courses in pastoral care at the University of Winnipeg, and was always up for travel to visit her children and grandchildren from coast to coast in British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia. Although she lived with the challenges of ALS in the months before her passing, she never lost her capacity for kindness and laughter. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Lodge for providing Margaret with compassionate care.
Of course, anyone who knew Margaret knows that she did not live life in one straight line, as though it simply has a beginning, middle, and end. A free spirit, she retained at all times a plucky sense of girlhood fun. Cheerful and mischievous, she remained curious about the world and attuned to its wonder. Her playfulness was also expressed in her wonderful sense of style, and she well knew a knife pleat from a gored seam, a houndstooth check from a glen plaid. She delighted in social occasions and company, restaurants and coffee. At home, she was a generous and unfussy hostess who would join in gamely in the humour and laughter. Much like her own father before her, she had an endless appetite for puns, jokes, and stories. Not without seriousness of purpose, she wore her keen sense of loyalty and fairness lightly, even as she relished the thought of breaking the rules ever so slightly. Those she loved were loved without limit. Loving her in return was effortless. She charmed and she twinkled.
Those of us who remain will look for her playful spirit flowing in the clouds, tides, and wind, and dancing wherever there is a bonfire. More than this, and in keeping with her lifelong faith and trust in her Creator, we will find her again in the life to come.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Pastor Sean Sagert of Grant Memorial Baptist Church will preside over a private family service and interment at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, December 28 at 2 p.m. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at a later date, giving the many people who were touched by her spirit the opportunity to remember her.

Such a great lady! We always had lots of giggles when we got together. So very happy for the times we had together whether it was shopping in a thrift shop which we both loved to do or just sitting and discussing the world's issues. She loved her family dearly as I know they loved her. Michael and Margaret shared their son Steven with us and we couldn't have a better son in law. I look forward to seeing you again Margaret on the other side where we will once again share our giggles. Till we meet again, Sharon, Campbell River - Posted by: Sharon and Hugh (Family) on: Jan 05, 2021

I was very saddened to hear of my Auntie Margaret's passing. I spent a good deal of time as a child visiting with her, my Uncle Mike and my cousins on the farm, and I have many wonderful memories of her. My thoughts and prayers are with my Uncle Mike, Steven, Krista, Nathan, Alyssa and their families at this difficult time. - Posted by: Jana (Johnston) Lewans (Niece) on: Dec 26, 2020

I love to explore, go on adventures, travel around the province and in Margaret I found a soul mate. I’d phone her and before I competed my sentence she’d say, “You betcha, where are we going?” Off we’d go for the day to explore Manitoba, and sometimes take a few days to shop in Fargo. We got to know each other very well and I quickly came to the conclusion that if a mugger ever attacked me, I definitely wanted Margaret to be around! She was a master at details and I admired that very much. That mugger would be caught in record time! We both loved silly and we became very good at it. Laughter was a huge part of our relationship. As were discussions of troubling events. We always felt better after our times together. We were sisters and loyal friends and I miss Margaret’s physical presence terrribly. Knowing that we’ll be united at some time in the future gives me joy. Thank you Michael and family for sharing Margaret with me. I send love and blessing to you all as you grieve the loss of Margaret. - Posted by: Darlene Yeske (Good Friend) on: Dec 20, 2020

I lived in Swan River for about 1.5 years as a student apprentice in diagnostic services and met Margaret and Michael at church. I knew of them through BLTS connections and really enjoyed visiting with them while I was there. - Posted by: Isabel Acheson (long ago friend) on: Dec 19, 2020
