AUDREY ANN JANET SHKWAREK
(nee SELLER)
May 10, 1926 to December 16, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey Shkwarek on December 16, 2020.
She was born in Kenora where she met her husband John just after the war, and they moved to Winnipeg to raise three children. Audrey worked at a church, and later doctor's secretary for many years.
She joins husband John; son Rick (Katherine); mother Nora; brothers, Ken and Orville; as well as many other relatives and friends. She is survived by daughters, Danna (Hugh) Ferry and Judith-Lynn (Corey) Cole; granddaughters, Allison (Phil) and Caitlin; grandson Guy; many nieces, nephews and their families across Canada. As well, she will be missed by many church friends and close neighbours.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love and generosity toward her family and her community. She was an active member of her congregation at St. Barnabas, and later, St. Thomas Anglican Church. Audrey always brought light and kindness to the people whose lives she touched. She made giving seem effortless, a trait which will continue to inspire the people who knew her.
Audrey accepted Oakview Place as her new home, and the staff as members of her extended community. Everyone there provided exemplary care and brought kindness, dignity and comfort to her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oakview Place Residents' Fund, or to a charity of your choosing.
Cremation will take place, and a service has been postponed until interment in the spring.
Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery is in charge of arrangements, and this obituary can be found on their website.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Mrs. Shkwarek was our neighbour and I grew up with Danna Lee. I remember when Judith Lynn was born and I loved pushing her in her carriage. Mrs. Shkwarek was a kind and lovely lady and a good neighbour to all. If I am not mistaken, she was the last of the Manitoba Avenue moms still with us and her passing marks an end to an era. It was a block filled with many children and a real sense of community. My condolences to the family. Maureen (Johnson) Graf - Posted by: Maureen (Johnson) Graf (former neighbour) on: Dec 28, 2020

  • I grew up across the street from the Shkwareks and remember what a dear person Mrs. Shkwarek was. My Mom and Audrey were very good friends. She always had kind words. When my Dad had run out of patience trying to teach me to drive a standard car Audrey took over. It only took one evening and in her warm loving way she taught me how to drive a standard. I will never forget that! My condolences to Danna-Lee and Judith-Lynn as well as their families. - Posted by: Patty Burbank (old friend and neighbour) on: Dec 27, 2020

  • My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Love Rose - Posted by: Rose Sparks (Sister in Law) on: Dec 26, 2020
