HEATHER ANN SPENCE
(GOSLING)
January 19, 1957 – December 22, 2020

After a brief and devastating illness, our beloved Heather passed on from this life in the early morning of December 22, 2020.
Heather was the first born child to Thomas and Ruth Ann Spence (nee Paul) on January 19, 1957. Growing up in St. James and graduating from Sturgeon Creek High School in 1975. Heather continued her education at University of Winnipeg to earn a B.A. in 1979 and graduating as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in 1988. Recipient of the Sandra Melchuk Patient Care Award.
Heather nursed for many years at Deer Lodge Centre (Alzheimer's ward) and until her passing, at Middle Church Home. She loved to help people and was special, kind, compassionate, caring, loving to all and will be sadly missed. During this current pandemic, her husband Jim wanted her to retire. She refused to even consider the idea until recently as she cared so much for others.
While in high school she met Jim Gosling and they eventually married on November 6, 1989. Their family grew with the birth of their twin sons, Andrew and Gavin. Followed by Jonathan, who, with their Dad, mourn the great loss of their wife, mother and best friend.
Heather is survived by her parents and three brothers and their families. Tom and sister-in-law Caroline; brothers, Paul and Neil; brother-in-law Russell; sisters-in-law, Sara and Rita and brother-in-law Lyle; nieces, Brittney, Katrina, Kathleen, and Megan; nephews, Jordan, Taylor and James (Jimmy); grandnieces and nephews, Noal, Mya, Sophia, Zane and Kiira as well as special family friends, Ray Thompson (uncle Ray) and Joey Halldorsson (big brother to her sons).
Heather, Jim and the boys spent considerable time at their cottage at Bearsford Lake, Manitoba. She loved to travel, especially road trips. She loved her Winnipeg Jets and attended almost all the home games. Watched every away game. Go Jets Go!
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Health Science Centre. Their caring and compassion during these times was very gracious and appreciated (GA4).
Private service to follow at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • August 22 2025 - It is unbelievable that dear Heather is no longer with us. I just found out today. My thoughts and prayers go with her husband, children, Mom and Dad, brothers, relatives and many friends. Heather introduced me to her best friend Mireille in 1973. The three of us spent many joyful times together that I will never forget. To this day I especially remember a photo I took of Heather and Mireille at a park in St. James. The girls were standing together in front of of a fountain. They both had huge smiles. Heather had a beautiful red and white checkered top that matched her radiant smile and bubbly personality. I wish I still had that photo. But Heather lives on in my mind. As a nurse, Heather worked on the ward that my Mom was on at Deer Lodge Hospital. She was so caring. Her happy, joyful self made a big difference in Mom's time there. I can easily envision the the love and caring she gave to all she touched at Deer Lodge, and in the rest of her life. I wish we could have met again Heather. Your family I'm sure knows what a gift you were to this world. Your happy face will always be a treasure in my memory. Until we meet again Heather, we all are comforted you now know God's eternal care for you. Yours sincerely with love, John Morgan - Posted by: John P. Morgan (Friend) on: Aug 22, 2025
