VINCENT JAMES JOSEPH MAGNUS
Date of Passing: December 27, 2020

Early on the morning of December 27, 2020, Vincent "Vince" Magnus passed peacefully from this world.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Tara (Magnus-Walker); son-in-law Harvey; granddaughters, Jasmine (Magnus-Osborne) and partner Evan (Schaefer), Madison, Daria and partner Sean (Rohne) and Bailey; as well as by his great-grandchildren, Ember and Coby (Schaefer).
A devoted husband of 51 years, Vince was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2014. Vince was born in Toronto on September 11, 1928, and lived a full and productive 92 years. Movie-star-handsome, he enjoyed playing football in his youth and later worked as a laboratory assistant and farmhand. After earning a BSc Forestry degree from the University of Toronto, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1955. He became a jet-flight instructor and flew a variety of aircraft, from the T-33 Silver Star to the F86 Sabre Jet, before retiring in 1974 with the rank of Captain. Vince and Pat lived across Canada in their time together, Sackville NB, St. Jean PQ, Portage La Prairie, MB and Victoria, BC.
In retirement, he challenged himself in a variety of occupations, including teaching science, mathematics and religion at St. Charles Catholic School and as a campus police officer at the University of Manitoba. A compassionate and spiritual man, Vince became an ordained Roman Catholic Deacon in 1979 and served at Blessed John XXIII and Holy Rosary parishes. Known for his generosity and kindness, he was always quick to form genuine, loving relationships with dogs and children everywhere he went. The laughter surrounding his playful exchanges with 'Buddy' (the poodle) echoes in our hearts still. A family friend gave him the nickname "Captain Easy," thought to be most appropriate by those who knew him.
We will forever be grateful for his generous gifts of family vacations south, which he joined us on. Vince was the proud patriarch when four generations of his winter-chilled family relaxed together in Mexico (2016) and Jamaica (2017). The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care and attention given to Vince (and previously to his wife Pat) while they were residents at Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home.
Special thanks to Carole and Sukhmandeep - your particular kindness has made our lives easier and, no doubt, comforted Vince during his stay at your facility. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
