ELIZABETH (BETTY) W. GILL
(nee STEWART)

On Friday, January 1, 2021, Elizabeth (Betty) W. Gill passed away at the age of 93 after contracting COVID-19. Betty left us peacefully in her sleep at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.
Born March 27, 1927 on the family farm near Birtle, Manitoba, Betty was the daughter of Harry and Margaret Stewart (nee Grieve).
In 1946, Betty moved to Winnipeg to attend Nurses Training at the Grace Hospital. She graduated with her RN in 1949. During her nursing career, she worked at the Grace Hospital, the Health Sciences Centre, and the Children's Rehab Hospital. Betty was also a long time volunteer with the Victoria General Hospital where she worked weekly for many years.
Betty married Al Gill in 1951. They made their home in Wildwood Park where they lived for over 50 years. Betty and Al made many lasting friendships while enjoying the activities in the community and through their long time membership at the Wildewood Club. Betty's favourite pastimes were curling and golf. In later years, they built and spent time at "Badentoy", the family cottage in Nopiming Provincial Park. Badentoy was named after her father's childhood family farm in Scotland. Betty also enjoyed frequent trips to visit her relatives in Birtle, Alberta and Ontario.
Betty was known and loved for the genuine kindness she showed to everyone around her. She will be remembered for her quiet strength and as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rick (Marilyn) and Gord; grandchildren, Trevor (Arnatsiaq) and Amanda; great-granddaughter Pipalu, nicknamed "Little Betty'' after her great-grandma; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Al Gill; brothers, Jack (Jean) and Ronnie (Dorothy) Stewart; sisters, Kay Harrison (Art) and Mollie Berry (Reg); sisters-in-law, Aileen Reynolds (Herb), Patricia Greenfield (Kent); and brother-in law Clifford Gill.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the exemplary care they gave Betty over the past six years.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation in Betty's memory, thevicfoundation.ca
