JACK NICHOLSON
Jack was born January 23, 1932 in Bonnyville, AB, the 12th and last child of Alma and John Nicholson.
He leaves to mourn his passing his three children, Lloyd (Shirley), David (Heather), Debi (Michael) and five grandchildren, Tyler, Sara, Carly (Dan), Ali (JB) and Darrell; as well as his sister Barbara in Lamont, AB; his sister-in-law Ann Boychuk in St. Paul, AB and many, many nieces and nephews who fondly recall uncle Jack.
He grew up working mostly on the farm until he left to go to high school in St. Paul, AB. There he went to live with his sister Barbara and her husband while attending school. He rode his horse to school and helped his sister and her husband on the farm. Then he met Emma Terre "at a party" as he tells it, and she was the "prettiest girl in the room!" They reached their 65th anniversary in September 2017. She passed away exactly two weeks later. When they married in 1952, they lived with relatives for a bit, then finally settled in Grande Centre, AB. The children were born over the next few years.
Jack was employed as part of a maintenance crew at the American air force base in Cold Lake, AB, then moved on to a position as a firefighter at Cold Lake. He transferred to the Edmonton Airport Fire Department a few years later and quickly moved up the ranks, eventually being promoted to Captain at the Winnipeg International Airport. He worked diligently as Fire Captain, surprising his crew with early morning fire drills out in the back fields of the airport property. After a few years, he was promoted again to Fire Chief of Regina Airport. They had many outings to music festivals all around Regina and the Qu'Appelle Valley. Those were wonderful times for them. Jack was then asked to go to Bakers Lake, Northwest Territories. He came home to tell Emma they were moving to Bakers Lake and to start packing but she said, "No, you're moving to Bakers Lake, I'm staying right here!" So Jack went to Bakers Lake for about six months. He was then promoted to the Winnipeg Head office for the Department of Transport and eventually retired in 1990.
After retirement, Jack kept busy by starting a lawn maintenance business. He cleaned snow in winter and cut lawns in the summer. The neighbourhood got used to seeing his red truck hauling his equipment to and from customers. He was always willing to help his neighbours when they had handyman jobs.
Jack loved his grandchildren and attended many of their events, including spending many hours in hockey rinks and school auditoriums for concerts and plays. He also loved to curl and spent many winters throwing rocks! He was loved and respected by his family and all who knew him.
An interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in September 2021.

Very sad to hear of Uncle Jackie’s passing. Although I have not seen him for many years, I have nothing but fond memories of him when I was a young kid. We spent lots of time with him in the summers at Moose Lake, AB where my parents Walter and Alice had a cottage. I will never forget the night, at the lake, Uncle Jackie put on a swim mask and used two snorkels for horns. He came charging and growling out of the bush chasing after my older cousin Roger L’Heureux and myself. He absolutely scared the crap out of us.... I could not keep up with Roger, he was running away so fast! Afterwards, we figured out it was Uncle Jackie that scared us because he could not stop himself from laughing when he saw the state we were in. Another time, at our home in Edmonton, he left his entire drum set with us for a couple of months. I think we played them every day, probably drove everyone crazy, but we loved it! To Lloyd, Deborah, David and families, we offer our deepest conolances. - Posted by: Brian Kirkwood (Nephew) on: Jan 09, 2021
