GERALDINE RICHARD

Peacefully, on December 29, 2020, Gerry passed away at the age of 75 years, 10 months.
She is and will always be greatly missed by her husband, Ulysse, daughters, Bernadette (Bruce), Paula, and her son, Yvan (Tracy). Also her treasured grandchildren, Brittany (Scott), Jesse (Ashley), Cody (Sabrina), Mya and Rhyse. She was also blessed with a great-granddaughter Arya. She will also be missed by her brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many close friends.
She was predeceased by her mother in 1978, her father in 2011, her father-in-law in 1981 and mother-in-law 1999.
I, Ulysse Richard, her husband of 55 years (November 6, 1965) and best friends of 61 years would like to tell you about this amazing lady whom I fell in love with on our first date on January 29, 1960 when she was almost 15 years old.
Her name is Geraldine Lynn Mack. She was born March 8, 1945 and adopted by Valentine and Adeline Mack. She was raised in Cabot, MB and at 14 years of age, started attending grade 9 at St. Francois Xavier high school.
Gerry and I spent every weekend together. As I was older by three and one half years, I had to find work, so in 1963 I became an electrician apprentice while she attended St. Paul's Collegiate in Elie, MB.
Many times we talked about getting married sooner rather than later. Christmas 1964, I had saved enough money to buy an engagement ring.
We got married on November 6, 1965 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg. We took our honeymoon two years later. A trip to Expo '67 in Montreal, Quebec.
In March 1968, I got my journeymen license. This amazing lady stood by me every day for the rest of our lives. May 1968, we decided it was time to have a baby. Our first daughter, Bernadette was born on February 12, 1969. At the time we were caretaking an eight suite apartment building... well Gerry did most of it and looked after Bernadette while I was working.
1971 came along and we're expecting our second baby. We decided I should start my own business, so I wrote my exam and bought our first house in June of that year.
Paula came along in August, and soon after I had to go to work up north in Thompson. While I was away, Gerry secretly started moving things on her own while also looking after the girls. She had help from her parents and neighbours. Not once did she complain about anything.
1974 saw us on another adventure. A move to Elie, MB. In 1975, our third child was born... A boy... Yvan Renaud.
In the years to come, we spent many hours in hockey rinks for skating and hockey. We travelled many times for hockey all over Manitoba and Saskatchewan, North Dakota and eventually Lake Placid.
In 1982, Gerry became an education assistant working for the White Horse Plains School Division, then worked at St. Charles Academy. She moved on and became an E.A. at Homewood Colony for 12 years. She was very well respected by all students and parents alike. She so enjoyed the many Christmas concerts, BBQ's and was always called Mrs. R by all on the colony.
In 1975, Gerry took her first trip to Hawaii and it soon became our favourite hotspot. Twelve trips in total! These trips included many firsts for Gerry: visit to Pearl Harbor, her first dinner cruise, island hopping by plane, island tour in a helicopter with no doors, a hike up Diamond Head and back down, whale watching and a submarine ride!
In 2002, Gerry visited Yellowknife for three and a half weeks while Ulysse was working out there. She wasn't worried about exploring on her own, taking in garage sales, swimming and meeting a medivac nurse from England who she remained friends with.
Our last big trip was in 2015... a trip to Yellowknife; we drove the Dempster Highway from Dawson City to Inuvik, stopping in B.C. to visit friends and relatives. Sixty days and 13,500 km. Gerry was completely amazed by all the tundra. Gerry's favourite expression... "WOW".
Gerry was respected by all. She never once wanted to be front and center, but chose to remain in the background for everything.
During Ulysse's heart bypasses in 1991 and 2013, Gerry never missed a day of seeing him in the hospital.
When she was in trouble with something, she would always say "Ulysse help me". This time I could not help her. Her last words to me were "I love you".
Thank you to all the family, friends, and caregivers for your amazing support during Gerry's health struggles during the last year.
Our wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma was so giving and never had a mean bone in her body. We are so saddened by her death but we know she is no longer in pain.

"I'll love you forever, forever you'll be." (Robert Munsch).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be on Gerry's behalf to Diabetes Canada.
A private family interment will be held on January 29, 2021, and a service will be held at a later date pending COVID restrictions.

Ulysse , thank you for bringing her to the Yukon 5 years ago to see us and we got to spend some quality time together. She was so proud of her family and you Ulysse, and loved sharing her experiences. I remember and will keep this in my memory of Gerry waiting for me in the driveway when I came to visit her the last time I saw her. • It saddens us to hear of this tremendous loss. We have had the pleasure to know Gerry for over 15 years as she was a dear client of ours at Total Wrapture. It went beyond her just getting to know her service providers, she genuinely went above to get to know our team as a whole and each of us individually. We would regularly exchange many stories and she had a great way of leaving you with her inspirational words. She loved to talk about her wonderful family and her adventures with us as she was so very proud and was also excited to listen to our stories and learn about our families also. Gerry was a kind soul who was always friendly and appreciative of the ladies who did her spa services. Her upbeat attitude and sunny spirit was always noticed and had brightened many of our days. The team at Total Wrapture sends out love and condolences to Gerry's family and we know just how much she will be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Total Wrapture Medi Spa (Friends) on: Jan 13, 2021

I will always hear her soft voice in my head saying, "Hi Colette" when we talked to each other in the evening. She would giggle when I would send her flowers.
