MARIE ALICE HANNESSON
(nee FABRO)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Marie Hannesson, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, at the age of 97.
Mom was born in Winnipeg in 1923 to Richard and Gilda Fabro and grew up on Garfield Street where she had many fond memories and made lifelong friendships. She attended Laura Secord and Gordon Bell schools, and after Mom worked for Gault's and joined TCA Airlines in 1944.
Mom loved the outdoors and it was on a ski trip to Banff where she met Dad (Percy) - they were married in 1949. Mom and Dad were together until Dad passed in 2016 and they are now together again.
Mom enjoyed skiing, biking and going on walks in Assiniboine and Bruce Park, lunching with friends and was a dedicated bridge player. Mom was deeply respected by many for her kind and caring nature. Her sense of humour remained in good form until her last days. Mom loved to travel, and she and Dad visited many parts of the world - they also loved their time at the family cottage. Throughout her life Mom was dedicated to her family while finding time to volunteer. Moves through Dad's work took us from Winnipeg to Edmonton, Thunder Bay and back to Winnipeg.
Mom is survived by her son Lance (Carol); daughters, Pamela Bramwell and Barbara Hannesson; granddaughter Kelly Van Sluys (Bryce); and great-grandchildren, Cohen and Isla, along with nieces and nephews who thought the world of her. She was predeceased by her sister Rena Harrison (Fred); brother Sam Fabro (Marie); and niece Janet.
Special thanks to Susan and Chris for taking such good care of our Mom.
Mom loved all animals and if you wish, donations to your local Animal Shelter would be appreciated.

We love you Mom and we will miss you.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Barb, Pam and Lance, Just catching up on news late! I have the fondest memories of your parents since your mom probably knew me as a young child. I loved your mom's sense of humour and warmth. She always made me laugh and just adored her! I think she might be the godmother to one of my brothers. I still very much remember the sound of her voice. After my mom died in 1992 I recall visiting your parents at their condo. Your dad had had a reaction to a flu vax. I always enquired about you from your mom since she was my mom's [Pat] bridge partner, so over the years came to know and love them. Would love to hear from you. Most Sincerely, Anne Gajerski-Cauley - Posted by: Anne Gajerski-Cauley (Family friend) on: Dec 28, 2021

  • A second cousin I have heard about only in family stories. But each of the family, wherever situated, however known or unknown is precious. My sympathy to the family on her loss, but admiration to them for having experienced her in their lives. May her memory be eternal. - Posted by: Amelia Fabro (Second cousin) on: Jan 31, 2021
